St. Francis of Assisi School Newsletter

Home of the Wolves

November 30, 2011

Dear St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School families,

Tom Waszak

I hope that you enjoyed a joyous Thanksgiving holiday with family and friends. As we begin our Advent journey may we always remember that Jesus is the reason for this blessed season. May we prepare well for His rebirth in our hearts.

Family life can be hectic any time of year so I am grateful to the parents who were able to carve out time in their busy schedules to attend our recent parent meeting. The purpose of the November 17 parent meeting was to provide an overview of St. Francis' financial position.

Volunteers Needed for the Annual Auction Gala

Please join the efforts to support St. Francis' annual auction that will take place on Saturday, February 4, 2012. At this time, we ask that you sign up on the Google Docs spreadsheet found here.

Please sign up by 12/7/11, so that we can include your name in the event program and proceed with plans to make this the best annual Auction Gala yet.

Email Anne Kridle with any questions or concerns:  [email protected]

Cookie Dough Delivery

Thursday, December 1, 2011, our cookie dough will be delivered and be ready for pick up by 1:30 should you wish to pick it up early from the St. Clare Center.

December 1 will also be a rainy day pick up to facilitate all parents picking up cookie dough from the St. Clare Center that afternoon. Day care families who purchased cookie dough will have their orders transferred to the day care room for pick up that afternoon.

We thank you for your support of our cookie dough fundraiser and hope your home is soon filled with the aroma of freshly baked cookies.

Tickets Now Available

Want a taste of Heaven? Here's your chance. Tickets for Premiere seating for "Amidst the Clouds" Auction Gala are now available.

Also, when you reserve, special discounted rates await you at Disney Park and the Disney Hotels. Buy before Christmas, as prices will increase January 21st 2012. Log on to reserve your auction tickets and park or hotel tickets if you wish. Visit the website for more information.

Computer Lab Open for ALEKS-Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays

In an effort to support our new, online supplemental math computer program ALEKS in grades 3-8, we will be opening the computer lab on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:45-3:30p.m

Students will have supervision, and this will be on a fist come, first serve basis for the first few weeks. If we find demand exceeds seats available, we will establish a sign up list in advance. If a student attends Day Care, he or she must sign in to Day Care and then let the supervisors know he/she will be working on ALEKS in the computer lab. Students not attending day care should be picked up from the computer lab at 3:30. Day Care students will be walked back to class.

Yearbook Needs Your Pictures

Have you snapped a great picture this year that you can share? Did you take any pictures at any of our school masses or at summer school? We would love for you to share them with the yearbook editor. The process is simple. Just visit St. Francis' page on the Josten's website to upload pictures. Your creative spirit can be reflected in the pages of the 2011-2012 yearbook. Thank you in advance for your help.

Annual SFA Toy Drive

SFA Student Council is hosting their annual Toy Drive this Advent Season. All donations go to Catholic Charities of Orange County. We are asking each student of SFA to bring in a wrapped gift for a child of their same age and gender. (ie---a six-year-old girl should bring in a gift intended for a six-year-old girl). Please mark a tag with the age/gender of the gift.   Student Council thanks you for your help with this project.

Share the Gift of Warmth

Don't you love getting into a warm bed on a chilly night? Unfortunately, some people are living on the streets and do not have this luxury. To help them out, Campus Ministry is supporting Mary's Kitchen by collecting adult-sized new or gently used blankets. These will be distributed on Christmas Day to those less fortunate and in need of a warm blanket. Please send all blankets, adult-sized, new or gently used, to the 6B or 8B classroom. Thank you for your generosity in supporting this worthy cause.

SFA Moms Group

Join us for a fun field trip on Monday, December 5th, 9:00 a.m. at Le Potager in Fullerton (108 W. Brookdale Place) for a special table setting demo (10% discount & private shopping for our SFA moms). RSVP to Megan Morris at [email protected] or (714) 779-7723.

Caught Being Good

For the fourth year at St. Francis, we are recognizing good student behavior through the Caught Being Good program. Modeling Christ-like behavior, helping another student or simply being good gives students the opportunity to receive a Caught Being Good ticket. Teachers and administration may "catch" students being good, and students submit their tickets to be drawn at random and recognized with a prize and their names over the announcements.

Congratulations to last week's winners:

Car Line Reminders

If someone new is dropping off your child(ren) please ensure they are aware of the carline rules.  The carline rules are posted on SFAYL.org for your convenience

  • Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times in the parking lot.
  • Please do not use your cell phone during carline.
  • If you are parked in the parking lot, you may not leave until carline is completed. (from 7:40am to 8:10am and 2:40pm to 3:05pm respectively). Please do not attempt to pull out of your parking spot prior to these times.
  • All pedestrians must use the crosswalk. Please do not cross through the line of cars.
  • Children may not retrieve backpacks, projects, etc from the trunk or the back of a pick-up. Additionally, drivers are not allowed to exit their vehicle to assist with such items.
  • Please follow the direction of the traffic directors at all times and refrain from selecting where you drop off your children.  Remember we are trying to get as many cars through the line as possible in a short amount of time.
  • Although there is no sign posted, please remember there are no U-turns in the cul-de-sac during car line hours.

All the carline rules are designed to keep our children safe. Thank you for your continued cooperation and understanding. Also remember to please be courteous to the volunteer traffic directors and staff out there each morning and afternoon, especially if they are asking you to follow a carline rule.
