On behalf of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, we would like to personally invite you to participate in our 2011 Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Casino Night, that directly benefits our private, non-profit Catholic school (Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Eight). St. Francis of Assisi School Newsletter
Home of the Wolves!
October 6, 2011
|
Dear St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School families,
Thank you for helping celebrate the feast day of our patron, St. Francis de Assisi. At Mass in the morning Fr. Sy shared some interesting stories about St. Francis and later in the afternoon we gathered for a communal blessing of the animals. There was a great turnout of St. Francis families including those with two and four legs, claws and gills. The students had a great time and so did their pets. Our prayers to St. Francis were answered when we were treated to a beautiful afternoon of sunshine. Many thanks to Mrs. Watanabe and the Student Council for organizing the activity and to our wonderful Pastors and Deacons who were on hand to bless the animals. Today was a great reminder of how blessed we are as a school community! To view the Blessing of the Animals article that was included in the OC Register, click here.
Thank you for your help! Tom Waszak |
Volunteers Needed Desperately
|
St. Francis is in desperate need of some helping hands. Please read each of the opportunities below and contact the front office if you can help in any way.
Yearbook Editor
This position is the coordinator for working with Jostens. You will be supported by multiple photographers and Josten's representative, but someone is needed to be the point person for photo submission.
Book Fair Chair
This person will work with a Scholastic representative to help arrange volunteer times to help set up and break down each day. Chairs are also in charge of locking up the money each evening through the office and doing a final tally at the end of the Book Fair.
Sacristans for School Masses
This would not only entail set up before mass, but also appropriate clean up after mass in the sacristy. Even volunteering for one mass would be helpful if you cannot commit to once a month.
|
Scholastic Book Fair
|
The Book Fair will be here October 11 through the morning of October 14. Students will be able to shop with parents before and after school from 7:40-8:00 and from 2:45-3:15. Each classroom will also visit the book fair during their assigned time that week. Come and see the wonderful books and gifts available for purchase.
We are still looking for Book Fair helpers. Please contact the school office if you have a few hours to volunteer at this exciting event.

Ice Cream Sales for Academic Decathlon
|
How would you like to cool off in this heat?
Or even let your taste buds perk up with a treat?
If you are looking for a way to do both with a smile,
Then an ice cream or two is worthwhile.
There is no reason to not enjoy dessert.
It's like having frozen yogurt.
When you see your friends with ice cream,
Don't sit by and daydream.
You'd think it cost a lot to stay cool.
Whoever told you that is cruel.
A dollar is all you'd need,
For ice cream indeed.

Fiat Award Winners
|
St. Francis of Assisi School began our FIAT program, Faith in Action Today, last year. Mary's FIAT was her active participation with God's call for her life. We use the character of Mary as a model for our citizenship on campus, at home and in our community.
St. Francis of Assisi students are faith-filled Catholics who demonstrate an understanding of their faith through their daily actions. During September, we focused on the value of "Respect". St. Francis of Assisi said, "Preach the Gospel always, when necessary use words". We observed respect in our students by their use of positive communication with their words and actions, by the way their demonstrated their recognition of Christ in others, and by treating all on campus with dignity and honor. This month we recognize the following students for their witness of the Gospel through their example of respect:

St. Francis Teacher Honored
|
Eighth grade teacher M'Liss Painter was awarded the "Outstanding Teacher Award" by Cornelia Connelly High School on September 29th. Nominated by St. Francis alumnus Rebecca Shea, Mrs. Painter received a certificate, flowers, and a $90 waiver for the entrance exam fee for a student of her choice. Mrs. Painter was awarded this prestigious honor based on Rebecca's essay:
Mrs. Painter was an amazing teacher. She incorporated every day situations and issues into her lessons. Furthermore, she never taught directly from textbooks; she used resources from outside of the classroom, such as other workbooks, videos, and her own personal experiences. Mrs. Painter not only helped me a significant amount academically, but she also helped mold me into the young woman I am today.
Congratulations Mrs. Painter!
