2011 Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Casino Night Letter
Golf / Casino

October 21, 2011

6:00 pm- 10:00 pm

On behalf of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, we would like to personally invite you to participate in our 2011 Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Casino Night, that directly benefits our private, non-profit Catholic school (Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Eight). St. Francis of Assisi is our community's tri-parish school that collaborates with our three local parishes of Saint Martin de Porres, San Antonio de Padua, and Santa Clara de Asis. Our school is fully and solely supported by the parents and individual donors like you.

Great SchoolsGreatSchools Reviews Needed for St. Francis!
It only takes a minute.  Please help today!

If you've noticed online, there are a handful of school review websites, with GreatSchools.org being the leader.  For enrollment purposes, we need to build up the number of positive parent reviews for St. Francis on this site.  So, please, help today by taking a minute of your time, click the following link for  St. Francis on GreatSchools.org and give our great school a great review!  Be sure to fill in the number of stars (with five stars being best).  Also, if you have any great comments to include with your review, please do!  If you have questions, contact SFA marketing chair, Mark Maricich at mark@maricich.com

Newsletter for the Week of September 28

Dear St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School families,

During my short time at St. Francis I have learned about the outstanding education and faith formation programs provided to our students and the outstanding learning community made up of dedicated and talented teachers and supportive parents.  Add our beautiful location and exceptional facilities and we've got a gem of a school!  Let's look for opportunities to spread the good news!  We all play an important role in supporting the school to the outside community, especially students who reflect the quality outcomes of our Student Learning Expectations and parents who communicate their positive thoughts about their child's educational experience at St. Francis.  There are additional means to get the message out to the larger community. If you've noticed online, there are a handful of school review websites, with GreatSchools.org being the leader.

If you have something you would like to see posted in our weekly St. Francis eNewsletter, on the St. Francis blog, or an update for our website, please send all information to Jackie Gillespie at jgillespie@sfayl.org.

Thank you for your help!

Orange County Zoo to Join St. Francis Blessing of the Animals

2 P.M., TUESDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2011

This is a final reminder for the "Blessing of the Animals" event, which will be held next Tuesday, October 4 at 2:00 pm.  We are excited to announce that there will also be a special appearance by the Orange County Zoo from Irvine Regional Park, who will be participating with several of its animals.  Students and their families are invited to bring their pets to be blessed. For detailed information on the event, and to view a video of a previous year's event, visit www.BlessingTheAnimals.org or the link for the SFAYL Blog.
Blessing of the Waves on October 2nd

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange will host the third annual "Blessing of the Waves," an interreligious community activity held at the Huntington Beach Pier.  The prayer service and blessing will bring together surfers and ocean-minded people - regardless of their faith tradition - to show spiritual appreciation for our ocean resources and the beauty and peace that the ocean provides.

The prayer service will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2011 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM on the north side of the Huntington Beach Pier.  For more information go to Blessing of the Waves on facebook or call 714-282-3000.

Caught Being Good

For the fourth year at St. Francis, we are recognizing good student behavior through the Caught Being Good program. Modeling Christ-like behavior, helping another student, or simply being good gives students the opportunity to receive a Caught Being Good ticket. Teachers and administration may "catch" students being good, and students submit their tickets to be drawn at random and recognized with a prize and their names over the announcements.

Congratulations to last week's winners:

Outreach for Somalia

St. Francis' Campus Ministry is sponsoring an outreach to the children of Somalia. Currently, Somalia is suffering from drought and famine. People are fleeing their homes, sometimes walking 300 miles to refugee camps in search of food, water, and a safe place for their family. A food packet costs approximately 50 to provide nourishment for a child for one day.

Students at St. Francis are asked to make a sacrifice in order to donate to this cause. Perhaps, the students can give up a soda or treat and donate the money. Students who receive an allowance could donate a portion of their allowance. Parents are allowed to donate too! Donations can be brought into the classroom and placed in the jar provided.

On the Feast of St. Francis, each class will bring up their donations at the all school Mass. Hopefully we will have 100% participation. What better way to celebrate our feast day. St. Francis would surely be proud!

Ice Cream Sales for Academic Decathlon

How would you like to cool off in this heat?

Or even let your taste buds perk up with a treat?

If you are looking for a way to do both with a smile,

Then an ice cream or two is worthwhile.

There is no reason to not enjoy dessert.

It's like having frozen yogurt.

When you see your friends with ice cream,

Don't sit by and daydream.

Yearbook Editor and Book Fair Chairs Needed

We are praying that two parents step forward to undertake two key roles on the campus this year. Both positions are completely supported with professional staff from the yearbook company and Scholastic, the book fair company. We would love to train several people in order to have co chairs to share the load. Please seriously consider your talents to see if you are being called to one of these positions.

Please contact the school office if you would like to volunteer or ask questions about either of these positions.

Worldwide Children's Eucharistic Holy Hour

Next Friday, October 7th, EWTN will be televising their ninth annual Children's Eucharistic Holy Hour. This event will be televised to over 140 nations and presents a wonderful opportunity to participate in Eucharistic Adoration as a family and at a level geared specifically for your students.

The event will be televised at 10 AM Eastern time, so taping of this broadcast is highly recommended. For more information about this unique faith sharing opportunity, please see the flyer on our website.

Sacristans Needed

Dear Parents,

Do you love to attend school masses? We need you! We are looking for sacristans to help with each of our school masses. This would not only entail set up before mass, but also appropriate clean up after mass in the sacristy. Please call the front office if you can help us on any one of our school year masses. Thank you in advance for your help and consideration of this wonderful opportunity.

SFA Sports Tournament

St. Francis of Assisi School is sponsoring a "B" Football Tournament on Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23. Eight schools will be participating in our tournament. In order for this to be a successful event, we will need your help collecting money at the entrance gate, helping in the snack bar and working the down marker during the games. If you are interested in helping with our "B" tournament for your volunteer hours there will be a sign up sheet in the school office starting the first of October.

If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Handy.
