On behalf of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, we would like to personally invite you to participate in our 2011 Annual Charity Golf Tournament and Casino Night, that directly benefits our private, non-profit Catholic school (Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Eight). St. Francis of Assisi is our community's tri-parish school that collaborates with our three local parishes of Saint Martin de Porres, San Antonio de Padua, and Santa Clara de Asis. Our school is fully and solely supported by the parents and individual donors like you.

Welcome to the new look of the St. Francis e-newsletter.  The weekly newsletter will be emailed to all St. Francis families on Wednesdays.  Our goal is to use the newsletter to inform the school community about school news and activities taking place at St. Francis.  Another new addition is the St. Francis of Assisi School blog.  Our blog will be filled with stories about academic and extra-curricular activities as well as interesting and exciting news about students and staff.  Check the St. Francis of Assisi blog regularly to find out about the amazing, interesting, and fun things going on at St. Francis of Assisi School.  Also, you will be able to stay in touch by "liking" our new St. Francis Facebook below.

Welcome SFA's New Principal on Thursday, Sept. 15

I will host my first General Parent Meeting on Thursday, September 15, at 7:00 pm.  "What I've learned about St. Francis during my first 75 days on the job" will be the theme for my presentation.  Parents will also hear about the results of the Assessment of Catechesis and Religious Education (ACRE) administered last spring to 5th and 8th grade students.   

 

Coffee will be available at 6:30 so arrive early so you can share summer stories with old friends and new acquaintances.  The meeting will take place in the St. Clare Center.  I look forward to seeing you!

Innisbrook Gift Wrap Fundraiser

This year's annual Innisbrook gift-wrap sale began on Friday, September 2, 2011 and will continue through September 20, 2011. Our theme this year is "Get Hip with Hank."

Instrumental Music Program

Statistics show that young people who participate in music are among the most academically strong in their schools. St. Francis proudly offers three band opportunities for grades three through eight.  

 

If your son or daughter is interested in learning how to play an instrument and being part of the band, please attend the parent information night on September 14, 2011.

San Antonio Fiesta Tickets Available

With San Antonio's Fiesta fast approaching, St. Francis will be selling pages of ride tickets after school on September 6, 8, 13, and 15th from 2:30 until 3:15 P.M. A page of 24 tickets will sell for $15 during the presale, but will sell for $20 at the Fiesta.  

 

Please take advantage of this great opportunity to save and support San Antonio Church!

Car Line Survey

Last year, parents were asked to participate in a survey in order to study the car line procedures to analyze efficiency and best practice. Thank you to all those that participated! Your input, observations, and candid responses were very helpful.

After School Drawing Classes

Calling all budding artists! The Young Rembrandts Art Program will be offering classes to our students after school every Wednesdays from 2:50-3:50 P.M.  Classes will run September 21 to November 9 and tuition is $96 per student.

Academic Chess 

Chess enthusiasts welcome! St. Francis will be offering eight weeks of after school chess instruction to all students interested. All skill levels are welcome. Chess increases problem solving skills and helps children think deeply, strategize and plan. Check out the Academic Chess website at Academicchess.com.

 

Classes will run on Mondays from 2:50-3:50 P.M. for K-6th grades starting September 19-November 7. Please see the flyer  for more information and how to register.

Box Tops Contest Begins!

Dear St. Francis of Assisi Parents and Students,

 

Welcome back! We are kicking off the school year with our first of two Box Tops contests!  In an effort to increase what we earn through the program, we will be holding a collection contest twice this year.

ITBS Testing

Saint Francis of Assisi School will take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills from Monday, September 26, 2011 to Monday, October 3, 2011. All students in the Diocese of Orange will be taking these tests as one diagnostic tool to help design direct instruction to meet the needs of all of our students.

School Pictures

School Pictures will be taken Thursday, September 8, 2011 in the St. Clare Center by Cantrell Photography. All students will be wearing their school uniforms for pictures. Please look at the packet choices for purchase sent home the first day of school to make your choice prior to picture day.

After School Spanish Enrichment Classes

Are your students interested in developing or refining Spanish language skills? Conversa, an after school enrichment class will be joining the St. Francis campus! Using a method called Total Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling; Conversa will teach your student how to converse in Spanish and will explore Hispanic culture through music, games, and crafts.

 

Classes will be held on Tuesdays from 2:50-3:50 PM and will begin September 20th. Please visit the Conversa website at www.conversaspanish.com.  

Counseling Consent Forms

Counseling consent forms went home this week. Forms may also be found on the school website. All families are asked to return these forms, giving or denying consent, no later than Friday, September 16. All forms will be kept on file for the entire school year.   

 

Counseling services require consent from parent(s) and/or legal guardians. There is no fee for on-campus counseling services.

Volunteer Meeting

8:30 A.M. -9:30 in the St. Clare Center

 

All on campus volunteers are requested to be present. This would include health room volunteers, recess and lunch volunteers, room mothers, classroom helpers etc. Looking forward to seeing you there!
