Our blog will be filled with stories about academic and extra-curricular activities as well as interesting and exciting news about students and staff. Check the St. Francis of Assisi blog regularly to find out about the amazing, interesting, and fun things going on at St. Francis of Assisi School. Also, you will be able to stay in touch by "liking" our new St. Francis Facebook below. We plan to have these exciting communication links up and running in the next few weeks. | |
Dear parents,

On behalf of the St. Francis administration, faculty, and staff, welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. I hope that your summer was wonderful, relaxing, and filled with great memories of good times with family and friends.
The school year begins with many changes, not the least of which is new leadership at the helm. It is an honor to serve the families of our tri-parish communities as your principal.

Teachers Are Lifelong Learners Too
| The faculty of St. Francis of Assisi School began the school year a week earlier than their students. In addition to planning and preparing for the new academic year, the teachers attended two professional development classes conducted by members of our own St. Francis faculty. Mrs. Fernandez, our 2A second grade teacher, conducted a math game workshop based on her favorite math strategies that highlighted games, patterns in math, and easy formative assessment while reinforcing basic skills in the primary grades. Grades five through eight engaged in a Writing to Learn and Cornell Notes workshop led by Mrs. Coad, Mrs. Painter and Mrs. Watanabe.

Alumni Leave Legacy for Future Students to Experience
| St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School Alumni Mathew Hunker and Daniel Latham have recently been awarded scouting's highest honor, the level of Eagle Scout. Both Hunker and Latham attended St. Francis from preschool to eighth grade, for a total of 10 years each. These Eagle Scouts have completed a large amount of community service during their time at St. Francis. Troop 99 of Yorba Linda has been involved with St. Francis over the years, and has dedicated its time in many ways. The most notable being Latham's Eagle Scout project where he raised funds, designed, constructed and installed wooden shelving units for organization of student papers for eight 5th-8th grade classrooms. The shelving units were requested by the St. Francis faculty in June 2010 and the units were completed and installed by Latham and Troop 99 in February, 2011.
