What's on Your Plate?

 

woyp logoBusy as life is, we don't always give a lot of thought to what's on our plate. But in celebration of National Nutrition Month® all this month, we invite you to give this some consideration. Take time to think about getting your plate in shape, with at least half the plate filled with fruits and veggies, make half of your grains whole grains, and vary your proteins to include healthy fish and other lean proteins.

 

Check out these ideas for celebrating with kids and check out these suggestions for how you can get your plate into shape.

Plus we invite you to a screening of What's on Your Plate? on April 17; join us for this family-friendly documentary about kids and food, where food comes from and how it affects our health. (recommended for age 7 and up)

 

Presented by AHA and the Town of Cary Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources Department, this witty film follows two 11-year-olds on a year-long journey as they explore what's on their plate! Following the film, we'll have a short Q&A session featuring:

What's in Your Lunch?

 

Continuing our celebration of National Nutrition Month®, AHA is hosting the Healthy Brown Bag Challenge March 26-30! We're challenging people all across the Triangle, the state (and even some friends beyond North Carolina's borders!) to join pack a healthy lunch for one week.

Markets Kick Off Spring Season

Several Wake County farmers' markets kick off their 2012 spring seasons the first weekend of April, and many others throughout the month of  April.

Check out AHA's Farm to Family Food Finder--this Google map features all the markets in Wake County.

Cary Celebrates
Fit Cary Month in April

 

As a FIT Community, the Town of Cary provides the resources to live a healthy life. In April, the town invites all its residents to "Get, Be, Stay Fit"--get fit, be fit, stay fit--during Fit Cary Month and has lots of great activities planned to help you do just that.

Fit Cary Month will feature numerous programs and opportunities for all ages, including lots of free seminars and community meet-ups.
