Raleigh's Beloved Pullen Park to Feature Local, Healthy Foods | |
This Saturday, Pullen Park re-opens to the public with a grand opening celebration after being closed for renovations for nearly two years. In addition to the beautifully restored carousel, new welcome center and playground with fun climbing structures, Raleigh's oldest amusement park will feature fresh, healthy, delicious food at Pullen Place Café.
"We believe that everyone should have access to fresh affordable food that tastes good, and we can't imagine a better place to serve our community than Pullen Park," says co-owner Holly Taylor. "Our goal is to have delicious options for all our customers, even those with allergies and dietary restrictions. We'll offer traditional favorites alongside some delicious soups, salads, and sandwiches that feature fresh ingredients from local farms."
Parks & Rec Seeks Healthy Fare
After an extensive RFP process, Pullen Place was awarded the park concession based on strength of overall concept, vision, and experience. Combining the skills and diverse backgrounds of the partners, Sarig Agasi, Stephen Mangano, and Taylor, the Café offers a casual eating venue with a local and healthy flair for Raleigh residents and visitors.
"The Pullen Place partners took the City's vision for the new park and expanded it even further. When we decided to outsource the concession area, we were hoping for a strong team that would focus on healthy and local menu items," said Richard Costello, Director of Lakes and Amusements for Raleigh's Parks and Recreation Department.

| Upper Neuse Greenway Trail Now Open! | |
Area residents now can enjoy scenic views of the Neuse River on foot and on bike with the opening of the Upper Neuse Greenway Trail! The 10-foot wide paved trail extends 6.5 miles from Falls Lake Dam to the WRAL Soccer Complex on Perry Creek Rd.
"The Neuse River Greenway is the most beautiful greenway in the entire system, and for the first time in over 100 years, the citizens of the Triangle will be able to fully enjoy the Neuse River on the greenway or blueway with canoes and kayaks," said Sig Hutchinson of Sig Hutchinson Communications.
By the end of next year, the 30-mile, $30 million pro ject will span from the Falls Lake Dam all the way to Clayton with plans to connect to Knightdale, Wendell, Wake Forest and Rolesville to the East, and Raleigh, Cary, Morrisville, Apex and Durham to the West.
"It's going to be a major corridor for recreation and transportation," Hutchinson continued. "Citizens will have the opportunity to turn the worst part of their day--their daily commute--to the best part of their day, riding to work on a beautiful greenway."
Last week state and local leaders celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the opening, hailing the trail a great new avenue for residents to be active outdoors in Raleigh. Learn more about the project from Raleigh Parks and Recreation, and then head out and enjoy the greenway! |
