CASL Teams Up with AHA on
Sports Snack Game Plan

CASL logoCapital Area Soccer League (CASL) has teamed up with AHA in promoting AHA's Sports Snack Game Plan, which encourages young athletes to eat healthy snacks of fruits and vegetables and hydrate with water after sports. More than 800 CASL Recreational and Challenge soccer team coaches are sharing the AHA Sports Snack Game Plan with team members and families this week as they begin the fall season to promote healthy snacking.

"We're thrilled that CASL is leading the way in Wake County youth sports leagues to help get the Sports Snack Game Plan into families' hands," said Laura Aiken, AHA director. More than 80 Wake County pediatricians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants have signed a letter in support of the Game Plan to encourage families to eat healthy after sports.

soccer"CASL soccer is all about building self-esteem, self-confidence, team work and respect for self and others as these young people enjoy all the inherent benefits of physical exercise," said Charlie Slagle, CASL CEO. "Promoting the Sports Snack Game Plan among CASL teams will help our young athletes refuel after games in a way that is good for their bodies," Slagle commented.

Learn more about the AHA-CASL partnership and access nutritional information for athletes from AHA's website.

If your kids are involved in other youth sporting organizations
and activities, AHA encourages you to share the Sports Snack Game Plan and invite them to join you in healthy snacking during and after games!

Back to School: What's for Lunch?

So school's back in session and it's time to make lunches or have the kids buy lunch in the cafeteria. If you're sending lunch in, AHA's Pack a Healthy Lunch handout is a useful tool. If your kids are buying lunch, learn more about Wake County Public School System's nutrition at the Lunch Menus tab.

In addition to adding money to your child's account via www.MyLunchMoney.com, you can also manage how your child spends that money. Parents may flag their child's account with specific information, such as special diet needs and account restrictions, as well as obtain a printed copy of the record of sales on your child's account over a period of time. The account can be restricted in several ways:

  • Lunch Only
  • Breakfast and Lunch Only
  • No Snacks
  • Extra Sales: Milk Only
  • $2.00 limit per day
  • Snacks on Fridays only
  • No extra sales (some families choose this option and send cash in with their child when they do allow an extra purchase, such as on Fridays.

These flags will show up on the memo screen when your student makes a purchase. If you have questions, talk to your cafeteria manager at your child's school.
