Public Fireworks Displays Prohibited in Arapahoe County
| | The ever increasing number of wildland fires, the devastating destruction already experienced, and the potential for significant impacts to the urban interface of Arapahoe County, require the immediate implementation of responsible public safety measures to prevent further tragedy. Faced with the reality of extreme fire danger, an extended forecast for continuing dry/hot weather conditions and the demands currently being placed upon available regional public safety resources, Sheriff Grayson Robinson has determined that all public/commercial fireworks displays planned for the communities across Arapahoe County are prohibited. Architectural Committee Approval Process
| |
If you are thinking about making changes to your home or yard, you may be wondering about the Architectural Control Committee process. Below is the basic information on how it works. The three members of the committee are always listed at the top of every newsletter. The Architectural Control Committee must approve all updates and changes to homes and landscaping. Requests should be made 30 days prior to work starting. Requests should be submitted in writing to ACCU per this form. ACCU tracks requests and forwards them to the Architectural Control Committee. The committee consists of three homeowner volunteers appointed by the Board of Directors. The committee has 30 days to review and approve requests. Owners are not contacted during the process unless additional information is needed. Paint requests should include paint samples, a website to view samples or colors painted on the side of the house. Landscaping should include detailed plans. Home additions, decks, and patios must include plans, materials, and colors. If the request involves fencing or work close to property lines, a survey showing the property line should be included with the request. When necessary, county/city approvals should also be included with the request. If the request involves changes to measureable square footage of the home, it must be approved by the Board and neighbors must be notified. This is outlined in the attached resolution recently adopted by the Board. Additionally, if the committee can not come to a resolution about a request, it will be brought to the Board. These requests will be reviewed at the next regularly scheduled Board meeting. ACCU will advise the owner of the approval or denial of their request via email if an email address is given, and a letter is mailed to the owner. Once the project is complete the owner must advise ACCU and the file will be closed. |

Gators Swim Team - Racing Towards the Finish!
| | |
As we're writing this we have one more dual meet for the summer swim season on June 30th.
What a great season we've had, it's fun to win some meets! The kids have been working so hard to improve their strokes and times. This year we started weekly goal setting strategies, moved a lot of our team social activities to the beginning of the swim calendar and tried our best to keep improving communication with the team.
The week of July 9th the kids will be participating in the Rocky Mountain Swim League's preliminary swim meets. We will be hosting one of those meets right here at our pool on Thursday July 12th. The qualifying swimmers from the preliminary meets will then go on to finals on July 14th at Cherry Creek Vista's pool.
Thank you to our dedicated swimmers, parents, coaches, sponsors and volunteers. The Heritage Greens Swim Team gives us a chance to show off a wonderful component of what makes our community a very special place.
We'd like to shout out our thanks to our social chairwomen: Shelley Reed and Marla Terwilliger. We loaded the first few weeks of our season with events for our kids and parents to get to know one another and their coaches. Shelley and Marla charged ahead, organizing everything from golfing with monsters, to a volleyball tournament for the high school kids, to pasta, team cheers and karaoke, to a sleepover for the middle school kids, to swimming with pirates, to flipping pancakes and will finish off with our awards celebration in July.
Our fundraising activities account for about 40% of our income so they are very important to keeping the team in a healthy economic condition and keeping our registration costs down. We have four main fundraisers in the year. Thank you to Suzette Loving and Kristen Dimig for organizing the Gator Gallop, Holly Malcolm for organizing and sponsoring the Gator Golf Classic, Dana McDermott and Lisa Morrisroe for organizing the neighborhood Family Night & Wine Tasting Evening. To end 2012 we will be doing Luminaries and Butter Braids again in December, so please be ready to stock up.
Meredith McKinnon has done a wonderful job again this year getting candid photos of the kids at the swim meets and social events. Please check out our "Gallery" on the team web site: http://heritagegreens.rmsl.org

Reduce, Recycle, Reuse
| |

Recycle: Second Annual Electronics Recycling Event
When: Saturday, August 4, 7-10 a.m. Where: Heritage Greens Pool Parking lot What: Drop off your old electronics to be recycled. Items to bring include but are not limited to: computers (monitors, keyboards, hard drives, etc), camcorders, DVD players, radios, remote controls, stereos, VCRs, copiers, printers, cell phones, answering machines and much more. Cost: A small fee of $5 per computer monitor or $10 per television will be collected by Luminous Recycling.
Why: We need your help to keep harmful electronic waste out of our landfills. Electronics contain toxic pollutants such as lead, mercury and cadmium among others. Electronics that are dumped in the trash often end up in landfills, where these substances can leach into the groundwater and soil. Research estimates that electronic waste accounts for 80 percent of American's toxic garbage and is growing exponentially. Join us in making a positive impact by dropping off your unwanted electronics and help keep our community beautiful. Special Thanks to Tim Morton of Luminous Recycling for helping us set this up. Sponsored by
Reuse: Don't forget that over the summer we are collecting old magazines and eyeglasses: prescription or not, at the pool. Look for the bins!
