January 2011
President's Message

Greetings!

Greetings and Happy New Year.

I'd first like to thank those residents who took time out of their busy holiday schedules to attended the HG Annual Board Meeting in December. It was a pleasure to see many familiar faces as well as make some new acquaintances within our HG family. We had a great turn out and the exchange of ideas was greatly appreciated. I would encourage anyone who is interested in contributing their ideas, energy, or time to the community to attend the regularly scheduled HG HOA Board meetings.

Compared with many of our HG neighbors that have lived in the 'hood for many years and seen numerous changes, I understand that my family and I are still newbies. However, assuming that our experience as newcomers has been similar to that of others, I would have to say that HG is one of the truly great "neighbor" 'hoods. Having relocated here from the Phoenix area in 2008, we have made more friends here in the 'hood in our 3-1/2 short years than we had in our previous neighborhood after 20 years.

Given our short tenure in the 'hood, many of you may not know me and my family so a brief introduction is likely in order. The Anderson Family unit includes my wife Nancy, daughter Savannah, son Kyle, and dog Sadie. Savannah and Kyle are both students at Arapahoe HS, a junior and freshman respectively, and are very active in the music program there. Nancy is a director for a home health care company and specializes in high risk OB care. As for me, I am the managing principal for the Colorado offices of a global architectural/engineering firm. I've been a member of the HG Board since January 2009 when I was drafted, or rather encouraged, to join the board by a neighbor and also participate in the committee responsible for the Community Facility Improvement project.

In closing, I'd like to recognize the contributions the following Board members have made to the neighborhood over the past year including Chip Zodrow (President), Jeff Smith (Pool), Bill Bliton (Landscaping), and Marty O'Brien (Tennis). I'd also like to personally thank Chip for his many years of service on the HG Board and his roles on the Architectural Control Committee (ACC), Landscape Committee, Vice-President, and past two years as president.

I look forward to seeing some new faces at our next Board meeting at 7 pm on January 11th at the HG Community Room. See you there.

Regards,

Tracy Anderson

Christmas Lights Contest

It was a beautiful holiday season in Heritage Greens again this year and we want to congratulate those houses with the most spectacular lights. The Christmas Lights Contest was judged by 11 neighbors on December 17th. The winners are listed below and were also posted at each of the entry signs to the neighborhood. We also gave each winner a sign which was displayed in their front yard.

1st place winner  7997 S Fairfax
$150.00 Gift Certificate to Shanahan's

2nd place winner  7818 S. Forest St
$100.00 Del Frisco's

3rd place winner  5186 E. Nichols Dr

This has been an ongoing community event for the past ten years. We have great participation with over 70 percent of the homes decorated with Christmas lights. Thanks to all those who participated.

Summer Tennis Leagues

tennisSeems a little early to be thinking of about spring tennis, but from the questions I have been getting, it is not! Glad to hear everyone is thinking about tennis and organizing early. I will be attending the League Coordinator Meeting in mid-January and will follow that with a captains meeting to go over any new information, changes, etc. Any current captains and/or future captains are welcome to attend.  An email will be sent out with a date and location. If you would like to come, please send me an email at mlsmiff@msn.com or call 303-689-2240.

Thanks!

Thank You!

Thank you for your donations of cookies, drinks, gifts, and financial support to Project 600 at St. Thomas More Parish. Over 600 inner city youth came and enjoyed a great party put on by STM youth and volunteers. Highlights included face painting, a magic show, lunch, treats, crafts, gifts, and a visit from Santa. Thank you for making this a terrific annual event.

Thank you for Supporting the HG Swim Team

We once again had a successful luminary and Butter Braid sale thanks to our wonderful neighbors. We sold out of everything on our second pick up Saturday and some of our volunteers even gave back their luminaries so that other neighbors could have their houses shine brightly.

This event's success was helped along by our sponsors and volunteers. We would like to extend a special thank you to:

  • Ann Dresser Kocur, with Fuller/Sotheby's International Realty. For the past several years Anne has donated the long reach lighters for orders of four dozen or more.
  • Jeff and Jen Gruidel with Freight Logistics who provided free freight services from Southern California and delivery for our 10,224 candles.
  • Our great volunteers headed up by Trish Mack: Lisa Hansen, Lee Ramirez, Beth Thompson, Debbie Lepetsos, Bob Thompson, Jan McElhiney, Meredith McKinnon, Shelley Reed, and Janette Wenger.

Thank you again for keeping our neighborhood holiday tradition alive.
