President's Message
| | |
Greetings!

Greetings fellow neighbors!
After several years of enduring a thriving and hectic HOA Board, we have finally seen the last few Board meetings wrap up calmly and in a sane timeframe. And how does me getting home with no stress before 10pm on a Board meeting night correspond to you; well, it represents the fact the neighborhood is "doing well". As a result, I have very little to communicate this month.
I know King Soopers and other stores have their Christmas decorations up; however this is not an invite to you as a homeowner to begin to hang decorations and turn on lights. Not yet at least. Please try and hold off until Thanksgiving.
Remember we do live in Colorado and occasionally it does snow here. To repeat the same message for those that don't appear to listen each winter; I am reminding everyone to consider their neighbors and please remember to shovel their sidewalks after it snows. If you are going to be out of town for a while, consider asking a neighbor or any job seeking teenager to come clear your walkways. It is wise from both a safety and security standpoint.
You may have noticed some recent construction at the pool area. Again this work is all project wrap up, maintenance and warranty work. There is nothing significant to report other than some of the imperfect concrete was repaired and the pool will be ready for the 2012 swimming season.
We have set the 2012 HOA and Pool and Tennis Operating budgets. Not much has changed from the 2012 budget. We did consider lowering the HOA annual assessment dues by a few dollars. However in the end we determined that out of caution we need to keep the annual dues at the same level. This decision was made mostly because without long term and established operating expenses with the new facilities we are unsure of 2012 operating expenses.
Finally, we are still looking for many new HOA Board members and committee members to sign up and volunteer for the 2012 year. Please contact me or another Board member if you are interested in joining the HOA Board in some faction. The first 10 Board applicants may have the opportunity to win a free iPad from the 2012 Board members. Be sure to ask the next HOA Board on the rules and terms to win but bear in mind that you did not hear about this offer from me!
The next HOA Board meeting is scheduled for November 9th, 7p.m. to be held at the Heritage Greens Swim and Tennis Community Room.
Cheers,
Chip Zodrow
Heritage Greens HOA President

Recycle Tips

RECYCLE: What do you do with all of those old chemicals, paints and lawn supplies that are considered hazardous waste?
Call 1-800-449-7586
Our county has set aside a certain amount of dollars to offset the cost of recycling these materials, that is why they would like to do this on an individual basis and not as a neighborhood event.
Once you have made that call you will get a call from Curbside Recycling. You will set a date with them for pick-up, which is about a month out. Prior to your pick-up date you will receive a very large container. My container held over eight cans of paint, various sizes, and lawn chemicals. The bag gives specifics on what can go in it or next to it, i.e.: used motor oil fungicides, antifreeze, oil-base paints, auto batteries, aerosols, poisons, cleaners. The cost is minimal, about $20. If you have more than fits in the bag, they will pick it up but there is an additional fee of $1 -$7. If you don't have enough for the bag, get together with a neighbor and split the cost. This truly is an easy way to do something good and get rid of that hazardous stuff that is just sitting around.

24th Annual Inner City Christmas Party
|
| |
The youth at St. Thomas More Parish want to thank the residents of Heritage Greens for their generous support in the past years. Your support makes it possible to hold this event for 4 and 5-year-olds from Denver Public Schools.
On December 8, hundreds of young children will come to St. Thomas More for a day of celebration and fun. The children will enjoy a puppet show, face painting, food, a magic show, balloon animals, coloring, playing, and, of course, a visit and gift from Santa Claus.
In the past, Heritage Greens has been a generous sponsor to help with the cost of putting on such an event. Food, entertainment, supplies and gifts (approximately $25 for each child) need to be purchased or donated. Remember, for many of these children, this will be one of the few gifts they will receive. Any donation you could make would be appreciated. Please mail your tax-deductible check, payable to St. Thomas More Church, to 8035 S. Quebec St., Centennial, Colorado 80112, attention David Tschumper.
The party is December 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in McClellan Hall. If you would like to come and help the teenagers of STM, make cookies, or serve lunch, please contact David Tschumper in the Youth Ministry Office at youth@stthomasmore.org. If you have any further questions, please call Shari Lamb, a HG resident, at 303-740-7897.

Aquatics

The snow is flying and yes the pool is still closed for the season. I already miss enjoying the new pool-but next year is coming! We are finally getting through all of the punch list items and the facility will be in tip top shape for next year.
Speaking of which, I am making one last call to all those who are interested in over seeing the operation of the neighborhood's jewel. I have done everything in my power to make sure a seamless transition will occur. With the annual meeting around the corner, I want to make sure everyone has the opportunity to continue the great tradition of volunteering to make Heritage Greens the envy of the area. Please contac t either me or Chip for consideration.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone for the kind words regarding both running the pool and seeing the project through to completion. The last five years have been great, allowing me and my family to really get to know the majority of our neighbors. The time and energy put into this was more than worth it! As this is my last contribution to the news letter, I want to thank you again-and please treat the entire facility as it is yours-because it is. Take pride in it and treat it with respect.

Tennis Update
| | With the winter weather approaching , please keep in mind that snow and ice should not be shoveled from the tennis courts as this can damage the surface. Best to sweep or let the sun melt it.

Heritage Greens Resident sets World Record
| | Missy Franklin, Heritage Greens resident and former Gators team swimmer, broke the world record in the 200-meter backstroke on Saturday, October 22 at the World Cup in Berlin.
"I had no idea," Franklin said Tuesday. "I think I heard it before I saw it, and then I saw the little WR next to my time and I slowly pieced everything together. I was crying. Oh my goodness, I don't think I've ever been more surprised in my entire life. I was in shock." Read the Denver Post article. |
