President's Message

Greetings!

 SIGN

Hello neighbors!

Your HOA Board has had an extremely eventful few months lately.  Our online newsletter is up and running with it being emailed to nearly 800 different email accounts. Only a handful of folks still want us to print and fold the newsletter and lick the stamp and drop it in the box.  Nice to see most of us are willing to go green.  Heidi Elliott, our Communications Director, has done an outstanding job in putting together the newsletter, coordinating the mailing lists and working with advertisers.  And Heidi is now sending our "blast" news and communication emails to everyone in the neighborhood - her emails sure look a lot nicer than mine did!  Thanks Heidi!

We have also been very busy wrapping up the pool and tennis construction project and working out the unexpected issues and classic "dealings" with new construction.  We did finally obtain our Certificate of Occupancy, took possession of the property and are still working through the final punch-list of construction items.  Most remaining construction items are due to be completed this week.  Other than the punch-list items, all that remains are some pending changes to the fences and landscaping that will occur over the next few weeks.

The Metro District Board is currently working through the diving board and pool and tennis shade structure delivery issues.

The rules, regulations, membership guidelines, guest use and facility use policies have been drafted by the HOA and are still in the hands of the Metro District Board and their legal counsel.  We will communicate the rental information the moment it is approved and published.

Also, I need to remind everyone that glassware such as bottles and glasses are not permitted at the tennis courts, volleyball court or pool area.  We have had several instances of injuries due to glassware.

Contact the tennis coordinators Marty O'Brien or Marty Smith if you need a key to the tennis facility.

We have a cleaning company cleaning the community room and tennis bathrooms on a weekly basis; but we ask you to help keep the facilities clean and restock supplies if needed.  Remember that this is your facility and your neighbor's facility.  Help us keep the pride in our new facilities.

Don't forget the annual Heritage Greens Independence Day celebration is coming up.  Please note this year's event will be held on Sunday July 3rd!  Plan on a great parade, lots of pool games and backyard style eats with plenty of cool beverages for all ages!  Remember Fireworks are illegal in the City of Centennial and this includes Heritage Greens. We look forward to seeing you there!  Volunteers are still needed!

The next HOA Board meeting is scheduled for July 13th, 7 p.m. to be held at the Heritage Greens Swim and Tennis Community Room.

Happy summer,

Chip Zodrow

Heritage Greens HOA President

Swim Team News

gThe Gators have been enjoying a fun season in our fabulous new pool. The kids are having a blast, times are improving and records are falling!  Our Pre Team group has made significant progress and several of our Pre Team swimmers have successfully competed in their first meet.  We have one last home meet on July 9th.  Prelims are the week of July 11 and on Thursday, July 14th Heritage Greens will host the 11-12 age group competition.  The season finale is on Saturday July 16th with Finals at Stonegate followed by the awards banquet at the pool.

A special thank you goes out to all of our parents, coaches, sponsors and volunteers!  Swim team is truly a community activity and it has been so exciting to see everyone working together and having fun this summer.  Hats off to Holly Malcolm for organizing and sponsoring the Gator Golf Classic on June 27th.

One of the most memorable days of the season is coming up soon when Missy Franklin visits the team for practice.  Heritage Greens is so proud of Missy's accomplishments and the kids will be inspired by her.  Thanks, Missy!

ggMeredith McKinnon has been gracious enough to snap fantastic action shots of our swimmers.  Check out the pictures for highlights of the season so far.

Moms, Pops & Tots
swingsJoin us for a fun filled family day at Heritage Square Family Entertainment Village in Golden on Thursday, July 7 at 10:00 am.  There are many amusement park rides there that are perfect for 18 month to 6-year-olds and up.  You can purchase individual tickets or a wrist band for your child for unlimited rides for $27.  The best part is that parents ride free on many of the rides if your child is under 36". Let's meet by the carousel just inside the entrance.

On Tuesday, July 19 at 10:00 am we will meet at Belleview Park at the train ride.  We can enjoy the train, the petting zoo, and then play in the river.  We recommend that you bring water shoes for the kids, some shovels and buckets and of course, sunscreen!  Pack a picnic lunch and we can make a day of it.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions.

Tennis Keys are Here!
The tennis area gate lock has been installed at the courts and the keys are available for distribution.  The first key is free and additional keys are $5 each.  At this time there is a limit of 2 keys per household.  The key will access the tennis courts, the tennis court bathrooms and the padlocks on the gates on the east side of courts #2 and #4.  Please contact Marty Smith, mlsmiff@msn.com, 303-507-9605 or Marty OBrien, meob44@yahoo.com, 303-773-2394 to obtain your key.

We remind you to not prop open the main gate into the tennis area. This door must remain closed at all times. Also, please help keep your tennis area clean.  You (tennis players) are responsible for moving all tennis trash and recycle into the green and yellow Waste Management trash toters that are in the tennis area.  The lifeguards will move the big toters from the tennis area down to the street on trash pick up days.

Please remember that the tennis courts are only to be used for tennis, and proper tennis shoes are required. Black soled shoes leave permanent marks on the new court surface (court #2). New cabana benches, scorekeepers, divider nets and windscreens are coming soon... really! Thanks so much for your patience.
Summer at the Pool

poolSummer is finally here and in full swing!  It is great to see everyone enjoying our new pool after the long winter.  It is also a pleasure to meet the new families who have moved in to the 'hood during the winter.  Again, welcome to your new home in Heritage Greens.  In the off chance I haven't already met you during the last five years, please come up and introduce yourself.  I like to make sure I am acquainted with everyone in the neighborhood.

I really appreciate everyone who has familiarized themselves with the rules regarding the pool area. Just a reminder, they are conveniently posted on our website.  Regarding guests, the limit is 2 per family member and the resident must be with them during their stay at the pool.

As with any project of this scope and magnitude, there will be loose ends to tie up.  We haven't forgotten about those issues and I am doing my best to bring them all to a quick, successful close.  Your patience is appreciated.  Remember, the decisions made and implemented are not just for this summer, but hopefully for the next 30 years.  That is why we are trying to make sure we get it right the first time.

Should you have a concern or issue that needs attention, please bring it to me to ensure it is addressed in a timely manner.  As the central communication point, this will eliminate any confusion created by having too many people giving direction.  It also ensures that I am made aware of the circumstances surrounding any incidents.

Most importantly, the life guards are there to be the last line of defense against a catastrophic incident.  We have had a couple of near misses in the new zero entry portion of the pool.  Parents, you know your child's ability better than anyone and it is your responsibility to monitor their activities at the pool.  Please make sure you are within arm's reach at all times of our future swim team stars!  And speaking of little ones-GREAT JOB ON KEEPING THE BIKES WHERE THEY BELONG!  Please pass this on to them-they are really doing a great job.

Until next time, enjoy!

Reduce, Recycle, Reuse.

HG Recycle

REDUCE--Most of us are, by now, probably taking usable bags to the grocery store, but don't forget to use them when shopping for non-grocery items as well.  Try to keep a cloth bag or two in the car so they will be handy when running into a store.

Free up some storage in your home by recycling old phone books.  If you are like most of us, you have far more than you need.  You can stop phone book delivery by visiting

www.yellowpagesoptout.com

It's important to stay hydrated, but use refillable bottles for your water.  It's been said that an individual can make the biggest impact on the environment by refusing to buy water in plastic bottles.  Look for the bottle filler at the Heritage Greens pool.

REUSE--It's been said that one man's trash is another man's treasure.  Don't throw away good usable items that someone else might like to have.  There are many charitable organizations that will come right to your home for pick-up, and you can use your donation as a tax write-off as well.  It's a win-win! The annual Heritage Greens garage sale is coming up soon in August (see below).

Our recycling committee will be collecting used towels at the pool on July 4-8.  They will be donated to the Denver Rescue Mission so look for our collection bin. We will also be collecting used eyeglasses soon so save them for us!

RECYCLE--There's no excuse not to be recycling when you are a resident of Heritage Greens.  The bins are free from Waste Management and materials are collected every two weeks with the garbage pick-up.  Glass food and drink containers, junk mail, cardboard, all plastics 1-7, aluminum cans and foil, newspapers, and magazines are among the many items that can be recycled, and sorting is not necessary.  How easy can it get!?

More items that can be recycled:

  • Although they save energy, the CFL lightbulbs are dangerous when put into landfills because they contain mercury.  Take your burned-out bulbs to the Big Tool Box or Home Depot for recycling.  For more information about these bulbs, go to www.energystar.gov
  • Most grocery stores will take plastic bags and recycle them.  This includes all plastic bags, such as bread bags, newspaper bags, laundry bags, etc.  Just put them in your reusable shopping bags and put them in the recycling bins when entering the stores.
  • Keep all used batteries and recycle them at BatteriesPlus on University.  There's no charge.
  • Whole Foods recycles corks--for all you wine drinkers!
  • Plastic gardening containers--six packs, gallon containers, plastic flats, etc--can be taken to Wilmore's Nursery or Tagawa's for recycling.
  • Take your used printer cartridges with you when you buy new ones--most office supply stores will recycle them and give you a discount as well.

IMPORTANT!!!  Heritage Greens will be having an electronics recycling day on August 6 from 7-11 at the pool parking lot.  We will be taking office equipment and consumer electronics for recycling so these items don't have to go into our landfills and pollute our earth.   If these items are recycled, they provide a valuable source of secondary raw materials;  if they are not recycled, they can cause serious environmental damage.   Look for more information in the next newsletter.

Thanks for taking the time to protect our earth so that future generations can enjoy it!
