The Class of 2011 narrowly beat out the Class of 2009 for the most attendance and the title of "Best Class Ever!" Also, we welcomed members of the 2012 Class and enjoyed getting to know them. Thanks to everyone who came to the event. We hope to see you all at the educational event in August!

Lab Alumni Supporting the Mayor's SA2020 Vision
When the Social and Community Events Committee set out to make plans for the upcoming year, we decided to align our events with the mission of SA2020: to catalyze the entire San Antonio community into passionate, focused and sustained action to achieve the shared goals that will transform San Antonio into a world-class city by the year 2020 in 11 key vision areas. Those key vision areas include:
- Arts & culture
- Community safety
- Downtown development
- Economic competitiveness
- Education
- Family well-being
- Government accountability & civic engagement
- Health & fitness
- Natural resources & environmental sustainability
- Neighborhoods & growth management
- Transportation.
At our Kickoff event in March, at the Westin Riverwalk (one of our natural resources!), we were able to utilize transportation (a riverboat tour) to expose Labbers to downtown development and arts & culture and enjoyed an architectural walking tour improving our health & fitness. Sales from raffle tickets funded our community event in June, which supports education. One event, six key vision areas!
At the Serengeti event in May we had so much fun enjoying our natural resources in the Hill Country, improving our family well-being, while once again selling raffle tickets funding our June community event. Three key vision areas this time.
Lab Rats and their families rolled up their sleeves in support of education in June to help beautify a Family Service Association Head Start Center. Head Start is a program that was started by President Johnson that provides comprehensive education, health, nutrition and parent involvement services to low-income children and their families. We are planning to continue our commitment to education by returning to the same center in the fall for another project.
You can find your passion by logging onto SA2020's website to see how you can further support this vision! |
Lab Safari to the Serengeti (Resort)
In May, the Lab Alumni enjoyed a fun afternoon at the Serengeti Resort in Bergheim, feeding the exotic animals and tasting new wines. The giraffes were friendly, the ostriches a little scary and the wine was unique. Another great alumni event!
