2012 Kick-Off Event

Thank you to all who joined us at the Kick-Off event in March. It was a fantastic event! Many thanks to the Westin Riverwalk for hosting us and to CPS Energy for providing the parking.

Our group enjoyed a beautiful evening on the San Antonio Riverwalk, with drinks and tapas provided by Zocca at the Westin, and an interesting and informative walking tour of downtown San Antonio. We ended the evening as tourists on a river boat ride.

Engaging Employees to Drive Performance -
  Webinar

Recent surveys show job satisfaction levels and employee engagement are at record lows, a crisis for business and individuals alike. The link between engagement and service, productivity and profits are well documented. But did you also know that people who are dissatisfied at work weigh on average five pounds more than those who are satisfied? Even worse, those who are dissatisfied at work have the same increased risk for heart attacks as those who smoke, they have less sex in their marriage and their kids are more likely to misbehave at school.

Through this TrainingIndustry.com webinar, sponsored by eCornell, you can:

  • Learn about new research that shows that highly engaged companies achieve a 5x higher shareholder return than companies with disengaged workers
  • Gain insight on how the spillover and crossover effects are causing your own career satisfaction to impact your health, marriage and children
  • Experience easy and affordable actions leaders can take to create an environment rich in growth, recognition and trust
  • Take part in a two-minute activity that prompted a previous participant to state, "You just changed my entire leadership focus. I'm going to walk through the office with a completely new mindset."

Click here for this free, one-hour webinar.

From the Lab Class Chair...
Leadership Lab 2012 Retreat, Establishing a Personal Foundation, was conducted on March 1 and 2. Based on the feedback received so far, we have again hit the sweet spot of what is important and of value to this year's Lab Rats. Leadership is influence - over people and circumstances.

Defining and developing our leadership skills is a journey; an ongoing evolutionary process. You may have realized at some point in the past that your leadership journey had begun but your journey of self-awareness, understanding and practical application of your leadership skills, should never end.

During Retreat, we began:

  • Defining leadership and communication styles
  • Identifying and defining non-negotiable values
  • Experiencing the value and intensity of trust
  • Developing a new and exciting network of friends and acquaintances
  • To deeply think about elements of our beliefs and perceptions of what leadership truly is

I encourage you to take a moment and think back to your retreat. What did you take away from your retreat experience? What did you gain? What were your "ah ha" moments? Are you still putting these into practice? How have you used these experiences in your time since Lab? Have you incorporated these ideas into your day-to-day activities?

What about the people that you met through class? Have you stayed connected? Are you using the contacts that you made in your business? Is there anyone that you would like to re-connect with? I encourage you to reach out to them. I would also encourage you to reconnect with the Alumni Association and take advantage of the networking opportunities with the now more than 600+ Lab alumni.

The next Lab session is focused on "The Language of Leaders." Language - written, verbal and non-verbal - is a key element of leadership. The next stop on our journey to enhancing our ability to influence people and circumstances will focus on that skill.
 Larry Lapaglia

Remember, Leadership Lab is committed to helping you make a difference tomorrow by becoming a better leader today.
