Reflections from the current Lab class..
Throughout Leadership Lab, I have continued to learn more about myself both personally and professionally.
Strengths Finder proved to be a learning opportunity. Understanding my strengths, I enlightened myself with new tools and will maximize them throughout my professional career.
Additionally, I have established lifelong friends and relationships that will be continuously valued.

From the 2011 Lab Chair...
The final sessions of our Leadership Lab (LLab) journey took us to "Marketing Savvy for Leaders," hosted by Rio Cibolo Ranch and "Leadership In Action," hosted by Security Service Federal Credit Union. Thank you to the Leadership Lab Alumni Board for sponsoring lunch. Our travel together concluded with graduation at Oak Hills Country Club.
Congratulations to the Leadership Lab Class of 2011! It has been a privilege to guide you. Thank you for being "my" class and all you taught me.
As we prepare to close out this year, I encourage you to take time for personal reflection. Consider all areas of your life. Capture your accomplishments. Create your future.
Closing out 2011:
- What one word best sums up your 2011 experience?
- Who were the three people that had the greatest impact on your life in 2011?
- What else do you need to do or say to complete 2011?
Creating the New Year:
- What advice would you like to give yourself in 2012?
- Who or what, other than yourself, are you most committed to loving and serving in 2012?
- What one word would you like to have as your theme in 2012?
In the words of George Harrison, "Yesterday, today was tomorrow. And tomorrow, today will be yesterday. So ring out the old. Ring in the new."
We each travel different roads to our next destination. Continue your journey with confidence!
Godspeed.
Jamie Suriano

We also tried several new ways of communicating by using tools like Eventbrite for event registration and Constant Contact for our quarterly newsletters and gathering Alumni news. I hope it's been beneficial in helping you stay connected with your fellow alumni.
In summary, this year has proven to be another foundational year in learning from past experiences and having the courage to try new things for the alumni association. The best is yet to come so I encourage you to get involved and continue participating.
Thank you,
Monica Gutierrez

Another Successful
Lucky Duck Race!
On Saturday, October 8, 2011 the Paseo del Rio hosted the second annual Lucky Duck Race and Festival at the Museum Reach of the Pearl Brewery. Proceeds from the event benefited the Paseo and the Haven for Hope Homeless Shelter.
Haven for Hope is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to turning around the lives of homeless men, women and children in the San Antonio area by providing a wide array of critical social services on a centralized campus. The Paseo is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, protecting and preserving the San Antonio River Walk. Like last year, the North Chamber Leadership Lab Alumni Association was once again a key participant in this year's Duck Race. The Duck Race netted just over $44,000, which was split evenly between the Paseo and Haven for Hope.
The North Chamber Leadership Lab Alumni Association team was a $1,000 sponsor and sold 565 rubber ducks for the duck race, putting the North Chamber Leadership Lab Alumni Association team among the top five teams for duck sales yet again.
Thanks to everyone who helped the North Chamber Leadership Lab Alumni Association team raise so much money for such a great cause! |
