Yoga's Benefits In the News
welcoming life Yoga practice provides all types of benefits!

"After starting a daily yoga practice...Shaughnessy lost more than 15 pounds, and according to his doctor, he says, doing yoga lowered his blood pressure so much that the doctor reduced his medication.Yoga, however, is not only for the physical benefits. It may sound like magic that yoga can have extensive effects on the brain and body, but ongoing scientific studies show that this ancient practice can improve health and in fact alter our mental state significantly, for the good."

"Recent research confirms what many have suspected - that yoga has positive effects on mood over other physical activities. In a recent study of 2 randomized groups of healthy participants, it was found that the group that practiced yoga 3 times a week for an hour increased brain gamma aminobutyric (GABA) levels over the other group that walked 3 times a week for an hour. GABA plays a role in regulating neuronal excitability throughout the nervous system, and also is directly responsible for muscle tone.

"Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) researchers compared participants' GABA levels on the first and final day of the 12-week study through magnetic resonance spectroscopic (MRS) imaging. With his colleagues, lead author Chris Streeter, MD, an associate professor of psychiatry and neurology at BUSM, reported the findings in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine."

"It is estimated that more than 15 million Americans practice yoga in the United States. Research is ongoing, and one thing appears consistent. Yoga biologically changes your mood for the better."
