A Lecture by Van James - Art in Education:  Education in Art

Why is education an art and not a science, and how is art an essential means of educating both children and adults?  As educators acknowledge the importance of visual intelligence and cognitive feeling, it becomes clear that we know more than we say and count.  What we express through art often touches the deeper levels of our understanding.  Art educates, and education can be a lively art.

About Van James:   VAN JAMES is an artist, writer, and art instructor at the Honolulu Waldorf High School, where he has taught for over twenty years. He has also worked in Waldorf Teacher Training  for many years, mainly in the US and New Zealand. He is chairman of the Anthroposophical Society in Hawaii, and a member of the Asia-Pacific Anthroposophical Initiative Group. He is the author of several books on art and archaeology. ' Spirit and Art: Pictures of the Transformation of Consciousness. ' is one of his recent publications.

A Weekend Workshop with Van James

'The History of Architecture'  In this workshop Van James will show how architecture through the ages reflects the ongoing development of human consciousness, from the Pyramids and Greek temples to the buildings of the 21st Century.

Friday April 1st  5pm -9pm (dinner break 6.30-7.30)

 Saturday April 2nd  8.30 am - 1.15 pm

Cost: $150. Please make checks payable to WSOC, and sign up in the office.

High School Art Festval

The HS Art Festival is Friday, March 18. The visual arts exhibition opens at 5:00 PM in the high school rooms. Performing arts will begin at 7:00 PM with light snacks served in-between. We hope to see you there!

Move-A-Thon

Sponsor Needed:

Do you have a connection with a gym or a  fitness or health organization? We are seeking a sponsor for this year's Move-a-Thon.  It's a nice opportunity to support health and fitness and promote themselves within our community.  Please contact Denise Ogawa if you know anyone.  Thanks.

Prize Incentives Needed:

We are looking for the donation of possible prize incentives for this year's Move-a-Thon.  Examples might be a new skateboard, bike, pair of roller skates, you get the idea.  Does anyone have a connection to someone who might be able to help us out with this?  Please contact Denise Ogawa in the office.  Thanks.
