2nd Annual WSOC Golf Tournament
Monday, March 28, 2011

You don't have to be a scratch golfer to experience the WSOC Golf Tournament! Golfers of all levels played last year and had a great time, while supporting our school.  Please plan to enjoy an amazing day of golf at Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine, followed by dinner and an auction under the stars, similar to the event last year. If golfing isn't your sport, but shopping is, you can join us for the auction and dinner.

WSOC is incredibly grateful to CIGNA for their very generous support, as the title sponsor of this event.   CIGNA's support is making a huge difference in the success of this fundraiser.  Thank you, CIGNA!

Scrip is available Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Scrip makes holiday gift giving a snap...also use Scrip to purchase your gifts, it is so easy! Either way it helps both you AND the school.

Winter Festival
Making crafts, rehearsing songs, baking treats, and hanging lights are all a part of the preparation
for our wonderful, festive day.  In a moment of gathering together as a community, a time is made to honor the connection we have to the changing of the light, and the bonds that hold our community together.  It is a moment to recognize the sacred through song, food, and shared activity.

Bring in Green Cuttings!

Advent spirals are THIS weekend, so please grab your trucks and bring GREENS in by this Friday!
Every year, we ask our families to gather winter greens to decorate our campus for the Winter Festival as well as for our advent spirals. Stopping by the tree trimming lots is the easiest way to help!

Most lots are happy to let you help yourself to their cuttings. Bring all greens behind the grade 7 classroom, you can use the dirt road to access the fence.  Thank you!

 Elves Workshop

Come into the office for a handwork kit to create beautiful items for the children to purchase at our Winter Festival. There are kits for all skill levels!

WSOC Native Plant Garden

This past Monday, the WSOC Native Plant Garden at the Talbert Nature Preserve was born!  We partnered with OC parks to create a brand new space on the lower part of the bluff, adjacent to what we know as "Green Park."   This space is now home to a family of California Sycamore Trees, one in the name of each WSOC high school graduating class (Class of 2011 - Class of 2025) and about 100 baby native California shrubs.  Each class from  5-day Kindergarten through Grade 12, traveled in class buddy pairs down to our new garden to plant their tree.  Grades 6 & 7 remained to plant the shrubs and Grades 1 & 8 planted trees for the Class of 2024 and 2025 on their behalf.  It was a great day.  We learned about the environmental benefits of native plant garden, biodiversity, sustainability, and the positive impact this new habitat will have on the local wildlife.  We will continue caring for this garden throughout the year and are especially thankful to OC Parks and to our own WSOC parent, Jennifer Bloch for planting this seed.  We were featured in this week's Daily Pilot.

Annual Giving

Annual Giving is the cornerstone of our giving program.  You should have received some information in the mail regarding the importance of supporting our school with 100% participation.   A huge thank you to the many of you who have kicked off the campaign with a bang by getting in your gifts right away.  This is so appreciated!  We are tracking participation by class for the Classroom Challenge and will be building a display so you can check on your class' progress.  Look for the display after Winter Break.  Gifts are easily processed on-line by clicking HERE
