GOOD NEWS!
I am very pleased to advise that the School's Phase 1 planning permission request was enthusiastically approved by the Planning Commission at the Monday November 15 hearing. I say enthusiastically as the Commissioners all voiced their appreciation of our wonderful school and the innovative and green construction that we will be using in the Phase 1 Project. There is a mandatory 7 day period for the public to file any complaint to the City Council so the decision will not be final until 11/22/10.
There was only one public opinion voiced at last night's meeting from our direct neighbor in the ranch property to the south of our campus. This lady was most gracious in voicing her support for both our school and for the planned buildings. Her only request was that the City look at installing a speed bump along the north end of Canyon Drive to control traffic speed.
I would also like to thank Lauren Jue (alumni parent and principal planner at VISTA, volunteering her expertise), Rob Meadows (father of Chandler grade 9, Grant grade 10 and Alexis grade 12 and an active member of the Site Mandate Group), Stan Morse (civil engineer for our project), Wes Alton (president of the Pacific Development Solutions Group volunteering his expertise) and Gina Illes (School Administrator) for the extensive preparation work that has gone into this approval process. Their dedication and professionalism to this project was also very evident in the Commissioners' decision to approve.
It was most pleasing to hear just how well valued and loved the Waldorf School Of Orange County is in the City Of Costa Mesa from the comments made by the Commissioners during the hearing. I believe the completion of the Phase 1 project will afford the school the opportunity to build stronger relationships in our outer community.
In the words of Rob Meadows, "It looks like we will finally be able to build something !!" I am so excited by this prospect and again cannot thank everyone involved enough for all their efforts so far in getting us through this major step in the building process.
