Friends House 60 Lowther Avenue Toronto (2 blocks north from the Bedford exit of the St George Subway Stn.) Therapeutic Strategies From Indigenous Peoples Of Turtle Island
Indigenous cultures contain vast resources for healing and wellness. Many Indigenous healthcare practitioners draw on their worldviews, teachings, and cultural experiences to work with individuals in a client-therapist relationship. This presentation will explore the areas of wellness and wholistic health from Indigenous perspectives. The therapeutic strategies that Indigenous healthcare practitioners are using in their practices to address trauma, depression, and experiences of parallel and multiple realities will also be discussed. These strategies were gathered during PhD research entitled "Decolonising Trauma Work: Indigenous Practitioners Share Stories And Strategies." Renee Linklater PhD, is a member of Rainy River First Nations in Northwestern Ontario. Renee has 20 years experience working with aboriginal healing agencies, political organizations and First Nations communities. She is currently Project Coordinator of the Aboriginal Recruitment and Retention Initiative for the Center for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto.
