A&D Medical joins the BHS to support device quality and hypertension awareness

The British Hypertension Society (BHS) is the premier testing and evaluation organization in the detection, investigation and treatment of arterial hypertension. BHS is a registered charity in the United Kingdom, doing all of its testing and evaluation without the pursuit of profit or a corporate agenda. They are recognized worldwide for their high standards and testing protocols.

This week A&D Medical announced its partnership with BHS, becoming Friends of the British Hypertension Society. A&D Medical made this important connection to help the BHS achieve its laudable objectives. Those are to develop, organize, deliver and evaluate a range of educational initiatives across primary and secondary healthcare to improve knowledge and influence the prevention, detection and management of hypertension. BHS is key to the advancement of hypertension awareness and support.

Validation, it's critical
The BHS maintains a thorough list of recommended clinical and home use blood pressure monitors on their website. The devices they list have all been clinically validated. This means that all of these devices, regardless of their cost, give reliable readings when used correctly. Every blood pressure monitors listed undergoes rigourous testing according to the revised BHS protocol (1993) and/or the international protocol and/or the AAMI Protocol, that have met the BHS criteria. To meet these criteria, devices must achieve a minimum B grade for both systolic and diastolic measurements. All validations are conducted in a clinical environment by medical staff. All testing is closely monitored for accuracy and lack of bias. The process insures blood pressure monitors deliver results that are comparable to those produced by mercury sphygmomanometers.
