The Sower Faithfully Spreading the Good News | May, 2010 |
|
Greetings in Christ Jesus! Memorial Day is right around the corner. With it comes the arrival of summer.
With many mission trips, Vacation Bible Schools and weeks of Christian service camp, summer is one of the busiest times of the year for our ministry. This year is no different as we're looking forward to another great summer of ministry.
Earlier this month on May 12th, Gardenside Christian Church and Teen Mission lost a dear friend, Gary C Nelson (pictured left). Gary passed away 10 days shy of this 65th birthday. He had served as music minister at Gardenside Christian Church since 1988. He is one the Lord's special servants and will be greatly missed. Please remember his wife, Margie, his family and the Gardenside church in your prayers during this time.
From all of us at Teen Mission:
"Gary, we have many great memories from serving the Lord together! We love you, we miss you, but look forward to seeing you again one day in heaven!"
Please also pray for us as we head into our busy summer schedule. THANKS again for your prayers, support and encouragement.
In Him,
Greg Herriford (Executive Director/Teen Mission, USA) gregh@teenmission.org |

Helping in Flooded Areas of KY and TN Teen Mission's Response and How You Can Help
During the first weekend of May, Central Kentucky and the surrounding region received record rainfall causing major flooding.
We received a call on May 4th from a dear friend, Bill Teegarden. Bill preaches at Farmers Christian Church, a few miles outside of Morehead, KY. Bill (pictured right, showing the water level) says they had 4-5 feet of water in the church basement and considerable damage to their new activities building. Several homes in the community were also damaged.
He asked if Teen Mission could possibly organize some work teams to help in any way. We plan to do so.
I'm happy to report that IDES (International Disaster Emergency Service) in Kempton, IN, has sent us $3,000 to help with repairs to the church building.
In Nashville, much of the city was under water, thousands of people in Tennessee have been driven from their homes, and nearly 20 people have died in some of the worst flooding in memory.
Please keep all those affected by the recent floods in your prayers.
Teen Mission will be organizing teams and individuals who would like to help in these areas. If you and/or your church would like to help for a day, weekend, or a week-long mission trip, please contact me right away (contact info can be found below). You may also contact our Disaster Relief Coordinator Jack Whitaker at 859/582-7061. |
Barnabas Project gets Underway Dan & Toni Underwood heading to Belize
Last month, we announced that Dan & Toni Underwood would be heading up a new ministry initiative of Teen Mission, USA, in the Central American country of Belize.
Through the Barnabas Project, the Underwoods will live in Belize year-round, helping nationals and churches in ministry. They will serve as hosts for our short-term mission teams beginning in 2011.
Long-term plans include planting new churches and eventually establishing a ministry center outside of Belize City or another strategic location.
In April, Dan & Toni purchased an RV (pictured left). They will be driving it to Belize and using it as their home and base of operations. Dan and Toni were at the TM offices on May 25 & 26 finalizing plans. When they left Lexington, stops were planned to see family and supporters in Memphis, Baton Rouge and Houston. They hope to leave the country on June 5th.
Please keep all of us in your prayers as both the Underwoods and Teen Mission enter into this new phase of ministry. If you would like learn more about this project, please check out the following web site: www.bpministry.org. |
