Psychological Factors with Emotional Eating


Do you stuff yourself with cookies or potato chips when you feel anxious? Eat pints of ice cream when you feel sad and depressed?  Then it's no surprise that diet and appetite are closely linked to psychological well-being. Studies have found that people eat more when affected by binge eating disorder, depression, anxiety, isolation and other emotional disorders.   Obesity and overweight can cause these psychological disorders and creates a cycle that can cause greater obesity while increasing severe emotional difficulties.
 
If you repeatedly try to lose weight and fail, or if you succeed in losing weight and gain it all back plus some, the struggle can cause tremendous frustration over time.  The frustration can worsen your anxiety and depression.
 
Repeating this cycle over and over again can lead to more overeating and feelings of hopeless.
 
The Solution? 
 
Stop dieting and stop the cycle.  Dieting doesn't work for people with emotional struggles.  Learning to eat healthy only comes when you can listen inside yourself and deal with the feelings that you are trying to avoid. Eating is a way of cutting off the underlying anxiety and sadness that you don't want to deal with.
 
Your feelings are your history, part of your past.  When you can stop running from them and embrace the feelings as a part of you and your past, you can stop the cycle or bingeing and depression.
