Defining a Process for Public Relations Research Standards

Last week, three major steps toward standards for public relations research and measurement were unveiled. These initial deliverables consist of proposed interim standards for social media measurement, traditional media analysis and ethical principles for public relations research.

The Social Media Measurement Standards (SMSS) team presented the current status in six priority areas: (1) content sourcing and methods, (2) reach and impressions, (3) engagement, (4) influence and relevance, (5) opinion and advocacy, and (6) impact and value.

The team researching traditional media measurement standards issued a paper containing proposed interim standards for measuring traditional media. This discussion document tackles fundamental issues that have been requested by corporate clients of media measurement firms and agencies.


A team of leading experts on ethics in public relations has provided an initial outline of
ethical standards and guidelines.  These guidelines discuss the ethical decisions as we design, implement, analyze, and report on research and measurement in public relations.

Annual Distinguished Lecture & Awards Dinner

Individual tickets and tables are quickly selling out for IPR's first-ever team lecture on November 8 in New York City.

The Annual Distinguished Lecture & Awards Dinner will feature Mark Penn, Worldwide CEO of Burson-Marsteller and Karen Hughes, Worldwide Vice Chairman of Burson-Marsteller. Each will use their extensive political experiences to discuss the presidential election results from two days prior.

Tickets to the event are $500 per person or $5,000 for a table of ten. Price includes cocktail reception, dinner and lecture at the Yale Club. The event begins at 6pm.
