T'is the Season for Beer Fests. Drink Beer and Be Merry.

Today, September 28th, is National Drink Beer Day! This day is a celebration of drinking one of your favorite beers. If you're a beer lover like us, this day is celebrated more often than not... a good reason to go to a a couple beer fests and taste varieties from all over. This way, you can find your new favorite for next year's National Drink Beer Day.

One of the better times of the year for Beer fests is in October and November in Florida. For one, the weather cools down a bit compared to in the summer. And second, spicy fall and warming winter beers start to show up! Too bad fall leaves don't actually show up as often....Anyway, keep in mind, we're talking about craft beer fests that actually have a good variety of styles and a knowledgeable staff, where "something light" hopefully isn't asked for very often.

"People who drink light "beer" don't like the taste of beer; they just like to pee a lot." --Capital Brewery, Middleton, WI

These beer fests are great opportunities to learn about craft beers and craft culture, whether it's a beer you've never had (or heard of), one you love and can't wait to have again, or when you get to meet a brewery representative and discuss the beer in even more detail.

Keep on the lookout for many beer fests coming up towards the end of October and throughout November. Really, there's a beer fest for all personalities... You've got one at a baseball field, one at Walt Disney World, one in a tent outside, one in a large field outside, one on a street downtown, one in a hotel put on by a Home Brewer's Club, well, you get the idea. Be sure to check out a couple!  And please remember to have a DD (Designated Driver) and drink responsibly of course!

Cheers,

An influential alcoholic drinks analyst says the launch of a novel beer blended with black tea could supple the spark that ignites a craft brewing revolution in China.

Spiros Malandrakis, senior alcoholic drinks analyst at Euromonitor International, said that the movement reflected the late noughties heresy - in some Western eyes - of the Chinese taste for premium Scotch mixed with tea.

Could we one day see shelves stocked with space whiskey? Perhaps so, assuming an experiment launching vials of limited edition whiskey into space goes well.

Scottish distillery Ardbeg teamed up with the International Space Station last year to test the effects of near zero gravity on the maturation process. Of interest to scientists are the micro-organic compounds known as "terpenes" inside the whiskey, which was launched into space via rockets from Kazakhstan last year. The experiment is the first of its kind.

Cherry Lambic Crisps

By: Phillip Kirschen-Clark

Difficulty: Easy

At NYC's Vandaag, chef Phillip Kirschen-Clark uses beer in everything from cocktails to desserts. Kriek - lambic beer fermented with cherries-intensifies the fruit flavors in these crisps.

Ingredients

-1 1/2 pounds dark cherries, pitted

-1 1/2 cups dried sour cherries (about 8 ounces)

-1/2 cup Kriek lambic beer

-2 tablespoons honey

-1 vanilla bean, split and seeds scraped

-Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper

-4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly, plus more for greasing

-1/4 cup almonds, coarsely chopped (about 1 ounce)

-2 tablespoons dark brown sugar

-1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

-1 teaspoon finely grated orange zest

-Pinch of nutmeg

-Pinch of ground cardamom

Directions:

In a bowl, mix the pitted and dried cherries, beer, honey, vanilla and a pinch each of salt and pepper.

Let stand for 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375°.

Butter six 8-ounce ramekins and set them on a rimmed baking sheet.

In a medium bowl, combine the sugar, flour, almonds, brown sugar, cinnamon, orange zest, nutmeg and cardamom.

Stir in the melted butter.

Press the topping into clumps.

Spoon the cherry filling into the ramekins and sprinkle with the topping.

Bake for about 30 minutes, until browned and bubbling.

Serve the crisps warm or at room temperature.
