Bacon Beer Cornbread
By: how Sweet it is

Difficulty: Easy
Try baking this cornbread in a loaf pan to spice up those dull old cornbread squares. Think cornbread sandwiches, cornbread toast with peanut butter and topped with chocolate chips or even crock-pot bacon bourbon baked beans! The possibilities are endless.
Ingredients
Makes one loaf.
-6 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
-1 1/2 cups finely ground cornmeal
-1 1/2 cups whole wheat pastry flour
-2 Tablespoons sugar
-1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
-3/4 teaspoon salt
-3 large eggs
-1 cup of your favorite beer
-1/2 cup milk
-1/3 cup sour cream
-1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
Spray a loaf pan with non-stick spray.
Head a skillet over medium heat and add chopped bacon.
Stir and cook until crispy and fat is rendered.
Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel.
Turn off heat, but don't discard bacon fat.
In a large bowl, mix together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
In a small bowl, whisk together milk and eggs.
Add milk and eggs to dry ingredients, mixing until combined.
Add sour cream and beer.
Mix and add in butter and leftover bacon fat, mixing until batter is somewhat smooth and just combined.
Fold in bacon.
Pour batter in loaf pan, then place pan on a baking sheet.
Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until top is golden.
Let cool for 30-30 minutes, then remove from the pan and slice.
Try this recipe with any of your favorite beers and let us know what you did by posting it on our Facebook page!

Ahhhhhh....the Dog Days of Summer are finally upon us. It's hot. It's raining. I'm sweating and hiding in the A/C. The north may have winter but we down here have a tropical summer. To paraphase Robin Williams in "Good Morning Vietnam", it is hot and wet which is OK if you are with a woman, but ain't no fun if you are in the South Florida jungle.
One good way to beat this heat and entertain yourself, believe it or not is baseball. For the first time in the history of the sport in Florida, you actually may want to think about bringing a sweater to a game in June! And no need to worry about rain delays either. Beer on the other hand....you may want to get a few before or after because there isn't anything available with much flavor once you are inside.
So make sure you do a little tailgating before because we've got the beers of summer to help cool you down too. Whether it be a Summer Seasonal beer like Shipyard Summer, Victory Summer Love, Breckenridge Summer Bright, Magic Hat Elderbetty Weiss, Left Hand Good Juju, Shiner Ruby Red Bird or a great Berliner Weisse like Dogfish Festina Peche. Or it could be one from our great list of year round beers like Avery White Rascal, Joe Pils, Native Lager, Ayinger Hefe Weizen, Oskar Blues Mama's Little Yella Pils or the low budget friendly Narragansett Lager. All will help you satisfy your thirst and make your taste buds sing.
Cheers,
Adam Fine

Online Buzz: Is Publix Expanding Craft Beer Offerings?
By: Eric Pera
LAKELAND | The Internet is abuzz with speculation, make that anticipation, over the future of craft beer availability at Publix Super Markets stores.
A recent chat on the Beeradvocate website, for example, has fans of specialty domestic and foreign brews salivating at the prospect of Publix expanding its cooler space.
Much of the chatter is true, according to a spokeswoman for the Lakeland-based grocer, but it's more transitional in nature and not some huge, company-wide initiative that will happen overnight.
"It is (a work in progress)," said Publix spokeswoman Shannon Patten. "As we develop new store prototypes, or if we remodel an existing store, we are dedicating a larger section for beer. It's a very important category for us."
Making specialty or craft beer readily available to the masses is a growth industry.

Sustainable Craft Brewing: The Legal Challenges
By: Reshard (RJ) Alexander
This past month, beer drinkers nationwide celebrated American Craft Beer Week with a variety of events: craft beer and food pairings, attending the unveiling of new beer labels, and/or meeting famous brewers who traveled throughout the United States to put a face with a name (or craft beer). No doubt, craft beer is experiencing a resurgence in the American marketplace despite the down economy as people seek to support local businesses and beer that contains more complex flavors than the usual light, golden lager.
However, what few are discussing are the very important environmental law issues that will ultimately affect the long-term growth and market stability of craft beer and alcoholic beverage production in the United States. There are a number of issues that will sooner or later create a shakeout of the weaker market competition due to rising operation costs and potential legal liability.

Upcycled: 750-mL Bottles Reborn
By: Draft Magazine
A big, empty beer bottle is more than fodder for the recycling bin: Try one of these five new uses for your empties.
Soap Dispenser: Fill a bottle with dish soap and insert a pour spout (available at most hardware stores), and you've got a soap dispenser that's too pretty to store under the sink.
Rolling Pin: Roll out pastry dough with an empty 750. Baking sugar cookies? Fill the bottle with water, seal and refrigerate; tacky dough won't stick to the chilly glass.
Candle Holder: Trim the end of a tapered candle until the stump just fits inside a bottle; light, and let the wax drip over the glass. Cluster a few on your dinner table for instant ambience.
Flower Vase: Show off a single stem inside a bottle wound with jute or twine (secure the ends with a dot of hot glue).
Oil Lamp: Brighten up a night of warm-weather patio drinking: Fill a clean, dry bottle with paraffin lamp oil, and insert a wick and a ceramic or metal wick stopper. Wait for the wick to absorb the oil, and light.
