Featured Beer and Cheese Pairing: |
Vienna Lager and Provolone (ex. Blue Point Toasted Lager)
Depending upon its age, Provolone may be mild and buttery, or sharp and tangy, or even smoky. It has a distinctive creamy white color and hand-molded shape. Makes a fabulous pizza topping, or presented with Italian antipasto. A Vienna-style red lager tastes warm, clean and somewhat malty, and its bready flavor complements the more assertive Sharp Provolone.

Featured Cooking with Beer Recipe of the Week |
Amber Ale Barbecue Beef
By yaknowbrady of CraftBeer.com
Difficulty: Easy Time: 5 minutes prep, 7 - 8 hours cooking Beer Style: Amber Ale Seasonality: Winter Serves: 6 - 8 Foolproof Amber Ale barbecue beef recipe for the crock pot, that can easily be modified to suit your tastes, and it's kosher too! Perfect for a busy weeknight meal! Ingredients: -2.5 - 3 lb beef shoulder roast -(1) 22 oz. bottle of your favorite Amber Ale -1/4 - 1/2 cup of your favorite barbecue sauce (I use a 50/50 mix of Gates Original & Sweet Baby Rays's Original) -Roll or bun of preference (I suggest onion rolls or garlic ciabatta)
All Seasonings to Taste Preferences:
Onion powder Garlic powder Cayenne powder Seasoning salt Black pepper Paprika
Directions: Place roast, fat side down, in the bottom of the crock pot. Pour the beer over the roast until it fills up the vessel 1/2 to 2/3 up the side of the roast vertically. If you do not have enough of one beer, do not feel bad substituting something similar to mix in. It shouldn't greatly affect the flavor. Apply all of the dried seasonings to suit your tastes, I tend to use a heavy hand, since it will be absorbed into the beef as it cooks. Place the lid on the crock pot, and set the heat setting to low. Let sit for 7 - 8 hours. After it has cooked through and is fork-splitting tender, drain the vessel so only the beef, and just enough liquid to cover the bottom of the pot. Pull apart the beef, and mix in the barbecue sauce (to taste). Serve on roll of choice.

The Royal Wedding is upon us yet in truly British style there is a disconnect from their own culture. For years, British ales has been considered one of the defining styles in the beer world...bitters, milds, porters, stouts and of course IPAs all got their start from jolly old England. There is even a beer being brewed in recognition of the day that Kate and William marry. But without batting an eyelash, without giving a nod...they have banned the beverage that practically built the empire because it is "not appropriate." It's time for a revolution! Oh wait...we already did that.
Well here in the great US of A we will celebrate that beverage by having the biggest and baddest craft beer week you can imagine. We've got beer dinners, a pub crawl on Atlantic Avenue in Delray, not just a beer pairing but a series of beer pairings, beer trivia nights, raffles, and for you hop heads..."A Night of 1000 IBUs." So mark your calendars, get your livers ready, and tell all your British friends that they are invited but there will be no teetotaling. American Craft Beer Week is May 16-22th and it is ON!
Cheers,
Adam FineDirector of Hoperations

New Arrivals:
PEAK ORGANIC BREWING COMPANY
Summer Session Ale - A traditional summer wheat beer marries a West Coast pale ale. Locally grown wheat provides a complex mouthfeel and Amarillo dry hopping gives a citrusy aroma.
Hop Noir - A delectable Black IPA, dripping with piney, aromatic Centennial hops. The malt base is dark and rich, anchored by organic black malt. This provides a strong foundation for the extravagant kettle hopping and dry-hopping that this beer experiences. Enjoy with a night-light.
 FLYING DOG ALES
Dog Schwarz Smoked Double Lager - A robust smoked double Schwartz. Dog Schwartz is full-bodied with a roast malt flavor complemented by hints of smoke in the aroma and body.
 RED BRICK BREWING
Dog Days Summer Ale - Beating the Southern heat is no chore for quitters. So before you pack it up and head for higher latitudes, grab a slice of shade and a six pack of Red Brick Dog Days Ale. It's chock-full of fresh, citrusy flavor notes and topped with a smooth, delicate finish. Just cause the mercury's heading North doesn't mean you have to do likewise.
 ROGUE ALES
Dad's Little Helper Black IPA - Deep mahogany in color with roasted malt and hop aromas and dense creamy head. It enters the palate with intense hop flavor and coats the tongue with a rich maltiness from the Rogue Farms Risk Malt.
 DOGFISH HEAD CRAFT BREWED ALES
Hellhound - 2011 marks the 100th birthday of Mississippi Delta bluesman Robert Johnson who, according to legend, sold his soul down at the crossroads in a midnight bargain and changed music forever. Working again with their friends at Sony Legacy, Dogfish Head pays tribute to this blues legend by gettin the hellhounds off his trail and into this finely-crafted ale. Hellhound is a super-hoppy ale that hits 100 IBUs in the brewhouse, 10.0 ABV, 10.0 SRM in color, and dry-hopped with 100% centennial hops at a rate of 100 kilos per 100 barrel brew-length. Can you tell they at Dogfish are stoked for this mighty musical centennial? To accentuate and magnify the citrusy notes of the centennial hops (and as a shout out to Robert Johnsons mentor Blind Lemon Jefferson) they add dried lemon peel and flesh to the whirlpool.
THE BRUERY AND CIGAR CITY BREWING COLLABORATION
Marrón Acidifié - Imperial Oud Bruin. For their first collaboration beer The Bruery partnered with Cigar City Brewing out of Tampa, Florida. Geographically a country apart but following similar paths, they felt an immediate connection with Joey, Wayne and the crew. They're both young breweries, founded and staffed by homebrewers, who use interesting ingredients and techniques to make unique, full-flavored beers. A recipe was created over pints at Falling Rock Tap House during GABF 2009 and Wayne went out to Orange County to help brew it shortly after. Over a year in barrels has left this dark sour layered with notes of cranberries, tropical fruits, leather and aged balsamic vinegar, balanced by wood tannins and roasted malt. Raise a glass and toast to the success of fledging breweries across this great nation!
 SHINER BEERS
Shiner Ruby Redbird - Brewed with genuine Texas Rio Red Grapefruit, the signature sweet citrus of the Rio Grande Valley, and ginger. This lager beer features grapefruit tartness and finishes with a 'lil kick of ginger. With Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit and Ginger, Shiner Ruby Redbird is a crisp and refreshing summer beer.
Other returning favorites hitting the shelves:
Dogfish Head Black and Blue, Rogue Double Dead Guy, Terrapin Monk's Revenge, Rogue John John Dead Guy and Rogue Chipotle Ale

British brewery celebrates Prince William and Kate Middleton's royal wedding with Viagra-laced beer
A Viagra-laced beer created in commemoration of the royal wedding promises to have people riled up as they toast Prince William and Kate Middleton on their big day.
Created by the Scotland-based BrewDog Brewery, "Royal Virility Performance" ale is laced with herbal Viagra, chocolate, goat weed and "a healthy dose of sarcasm," the company's website
says. Drinking three bottles of the potent brew is supposed to be the equivalent of swallowing one Viagra pill, Fox News
reported.
Only 1,000 bottles of the 7.5% alcohol India pale ale will be brewed and will be available for purchase on BrewDog's website. BrewDog said 20% of "Royal Virility Performance" sales will be donated to Centrepoint, a favorite charity of Prince William, according to CNBC.com.
The limited-edition beer will be shipped April 28, right in time for the April 29 nuptials.
BrewDog isn't the only ale artisan to rise to the royal occassion. Castle Rock Brewery in England came out with its limited-edition "Kiss Me Kate" pale ale last month and Andams Southwold's "Royal Wedding Ale" is available online. For full article
