It is Summer with a capital "S" outside....sunny and steamy.  Florida is at it's essence and the Summer beers are flowing...Shipyard Summer, Magic Hat Wacko, Summer Scene Mixer, Saranac Summer, Victory Weissbier...the list goes on and on.  But get 'em now because in the beer world, the Fall is about to start.  It won't be much longer before you are thinking about Oktoberfest, dreaming about Pumpkinhead, and looking forward to your first pint of this years Dogfish Punkin.  And get ready for the next big one to hit the market, Hex from Magic Hat looks to be the next outstanding beer from Vermont in the mix.  It's coming, you can see the Pumpkins getting big in the fields if you look hard enough.

Cheers,

Adam Fine

DOGFISH HEAD BREWING COMPANY

My Antonia - My Antonia started out as a Collaboration beer when Sam brewed it at Birra Di Borgo (hope you can read Italian) outside Rome, Italy with owner/brewer Leonardo DiVencenzo in October of 2008. In 2010, they began brewing My Antonia at Dogfish Head brewery in Delaware for U.S. distribution.

My Antonia (named after the Willa Cather read), is a continually-hopped imperial pilsner. This original 2008 batch was brewed and distributed by Birra del Borgo. A small quantity was sent over to the United States.

Blue Point
BLUE POINT BREWING COMPANY

Toasted Lager - Blue Point Brewing's Toasted Lager is the flagship product. Copper in color this brew is made from Six different malts including: English Pale, Crystal, Munich, Carapils, Wheat and Belgian Caravienna. Toasted Lager displays a balanced flavor of malt and hop which makes it easy drinking. Special lager yeast is used to produce that long lasting, smooth finish. The "toasted" part of the name refers to Blue Point's direct-fire brew kettle; hot flames imparts a toasted flavor to their most popular microbrew.

RastafaRye - Blue Point Brewing Company humbly honors the Rastafari and dedicates this beer to them. Their RastafaRye Ale marries a hearty rye malt with a blend of freshly harvested west coast hops resulting in a delicious deep copper ale, with just the right amount of rye flavor to offset the spicy and floral characteristics of the hops, RastafaRye will stay on your palate and your mind evermore.

Hoptical Illusion IPA - This IPA won the Bronze Medal at The 2005 Great American Beer Festival. It was also named the best IPA at The 2005 United States Beer Tasting Championship. This classic American style IPA features a rare hop exclusively grown on a farm in Oregon. One taste of the Hoptical Illusion and you'll know why Blue Point bought the entire crop. A generous amount of the select hop balances out malty backbone of this delicious golden beer.

Cigar City

CIGAR CITY BREWING

Guava Grove - is a Belgian ale that sees a secondary fermentation with and extended aging on Guava puree. The complex flavors imparted by both the Belgian yeast strain and the Guava are unlike anything you are likely to have encountered. This is an elegant beer that pairs well with white fish, mussels, fresh tropical fruits and earthy cheeses. It also makes a fine accompaniment to Guavaween festivities.

Southern Tier
SOUTHERN TIER BREWING COMPANY

imperial crème brûlée stout "a stout of great contention"

Southern Tier is not the harbinger of truth as some may suggest but it may indeed be argued that their brewing philosophy is tantamount to a dessert with a bellicose past. How, you may ask, would a brewery determine a likeness to hard-coated custard? Their response is simple; it's all in the power of history, and of course, the extra finesse needed to top off a contentious treat with definition.

By comprehending the labyrinthine movement of time, one would not think it strange to trace the errant path of an ordinary object such as a cream dessert only to discover that it has been the cause of cultural disputes since the middle ages. The British founders of burnt cream and from Spain, crema catalana, both stand by their creative originality and they respect that, but it was the French Crème Brûlée, amid the strife of contention, that survived to represent Southern Tier's deliciously creamy brew. 9.2% abv

2xipa "4 types of hops, 3 types of barley" Not quite an imperial, but certainly not a standard India pale ale. Our double IPA is a hop lovers dream. Citrusy and clean with an incredible finish. 8.2% abv

Other returning favorites hitting the shelves:
Avery White Rascal and IPA (Now debuting in their new packaging), Dogfish Head Theobroma. Keep an eye out for some specialty imports that will be hitting the shelves over the next week...very limited offerings from Cantillion, Nogne, Achel and Jolly Pumpkin will be available at some of your specialty beer geek accounts.

BrewDog Unveils the World's Strongest, Squirreliest Beer Ever
It seems Experts in stunts/brewing/stunt brewing, Scottish craft brewery BrewDog has come out with a 55% ABV beer called The End of History. Oh, and it comes in bottles encased in your choice of a dead stoat (which costs £500 $764 US) or squirrel (£700, or about $1070 US).

Only 11 bottles of the freeze-distilled blond Belgian were brewed. Beer purists consider the freeze distillation process, also known as jacking or fractional freezing, cheating, or simply don't consider the end result technically beer. BrewDog has previously developed 32% and 41% beers, but claim that The End of the World is the strongest beer available today. The End of History was brewed in retaliation to a 43% German beer.

British animal rights activists find the bottle aspect "perverse"
of course, but BrewDog cofounder James Watt says they are merely trying to "elevate the status of beer in our culture." (BrewDog claims the animals died of natural causes.) The alcohol awareness people don't like it either: Says a representative for the group Alcohol Focus Scotland, "This is another example of this company pushing the boundaries of acceptability all in the pursuit of cheap marketing tactics." Bottom's up! Japan's ANA becomes first airline to offer draft beer in-flight
Beer lovers, rejoice - Japan's got your back.

Draft beer, which was once banished from the skies, will be served by Japanese carrier All Nippon Airways starting July 20, reports Bornrich.org. For the first time, fliers will be able to tap into specialized kegs installed onboard, but only on domestic flights in Japan.

A cold one will cost you 1,000 yen, or about $11.30.But with only 20 glasses available per flight (Tokyo-Okinawa will serve 40), drinkers had better buy fast.

Draft beer couldn't be served before because fluctuating air pressure created too much foam, according to Japan Probe. Supposedly, new beer keg technology was developed to remedy the issue. For orignal article

Penn Brewery rolling out bottled beer again
Penn Brewery is back to bottling beer at its longtime North Side facility, with cases of Penn Pilsner, Penn Dark and Penn Weizen now rolling off Penn's new state-of-the-art bottling line.

President and founder Tom Pastorius, who has retaken control of the business out of retirement, said that the brewery has produced more than 5,000 cases so far this month and expects to produce another 50,000 cases by the end of the year.

"Penn Brewery beers should be readily available at local beer distributors this week," said Pastorius.

Under the reestablished leadership of Pastorius, Penn Brewery is no longer having its beers produced on a contract basis at The Lion Brewery in Wilkes Barre, Pennsylvania.

Along with its flagship brands, Penn plans to begin bottling the first cases of Penn Oktoberfest 2010 next week, followed by the brewery's latest beer brand, Allegheny Pale Ale in early August.

Pastorius said the company's "new, European-made double pre-evacuation bottle filler gives us very low oxygen levels in the bottles which ensures longer shelf life. We want our customers to know that this is as good as it gets and as always at Penn Brewery, product quality is the top priority." For full article
