StoneAs we are getting closer to the end of American Craft Beer Week, it is important to give a big "thank you" to all of you supporters of craft beer in South Florida. We are working hard to continually contribute to the ever growing craft beer community and your enthusiasm is what keeps us going. Fortunately, we still have a couple days to celebrate and we have some details below on the events that we have going on. So if you haven't yet had time this week to visit your favorite watering hole and take part in one of the events, don't fret... theres still time! You may have also noticed that Adam, Director of Hoperations, isn't giving his usual words of wisdom right now. "Why?" you might ask. At the moment he is taking some much deserved time roaming around Italy, most likely sipping some Italian craft beers (or doing "market research" as we like to put it). Who knows what knowledge or beer he might bring back to share. Even without "The Head Beer Pimp" I hope to see some of you out so we can make a toast to American Craft Beer and the ongoing efforts of you fine beer drinkers.

Cheers,

Ian Salzberg
Minister of Beer Communications

Sunrise Weissbeer - As invigorating as the morning rays of the summer sun, Sunrise Weissbier satisfies when the heat is on, too. This unfiltered, Bavarian style ale is true to its origins with all ingredients except for the water having been imported from Germany. It remains unfiltered to feature the tangy, fruity flavors of its unique yeast. The imported German malt contributes greatly to add a crisp, citric snap that makes this beer a superb summertime refresher.

Shipyard

Wheat Ale -Shipyard Wheat Ale is a crisp, refreshing, American style wheat ale with a soft golden color and nice copper hue. This filtered wheat beer has 4.5% alcohol by volume and is made with 60% Malted Wheat and 30% Pale Ale Malt. There are touches of Light Munich and Caramunich Malts and a hint of Crystal Malt. This beer is subtly hopped with Glacier and Hallertau Hops and an exciting new aroma hop called 04-188. Grown in the Pacific Northwest, this experimental hop is a hybrid of Cascade and Fuggles and is also used in dry hopping to give this beer a pleasing, earthy aroma. "Shipyard Wheat Ale is a very intriguing beer."

The basics of beer cellaring

Like wine, cellaring is becoming increasingly popular in the beer world, and it can be an extremely rewarding endeavor and a great educational experience.

But before you start laying down bottles, there are some key basics to keep in mind. The most important factors affecting a beer's suitability for cellaring are alcohol content and hopping rate; always keep these in mind when choosing a beer to put away.

Many beers meant for storing will have a vintage date printed on them and often will have no "best by" date (if the company even prints one on its beers at all), and this is often a good indicator that you're purchasing a cellar-worthy beer. For full article
Women and Beer: A Surprising Trend in the Beer Industry

It may be the marketing strategy of many conglomerate brewers of the past, but ads targeting just men may not reach today's beer drinker. Not only are women more increasingly appreciating beer, but within the industry, women have solidified their place in management roles and the day-to-day operations of the brewing industry. Let's forget about the fact that the resurgence of craft beer has opened the door publicly to an endless array of choice, enabling the beer drinker to pinpoint the flavors and tastes that make their taste buds tingle. But, the general demographics of women may foreshadow the direction most brewers may go in terms of their target market from now on. For full Article
A New Twist to Recycling Beer Bottles

What do you do with empty beer bottles? You probably just answered the question: I throw them away, dumb%$* (or for the more environmentally friendly "recycle, dumb#$%"). Okay, dumb question-but did you ever think you could reuse those beer bottles? Chicago artist, Nick Paul, did reuse his beer bottles in a very productive manner: he used them to make beer glasses.

Nick formerly worked at a studio that sold glass trinkets at arts and crafts shows. After losing his job, he decided to replicate the business model of his former employer and go into business himself. Using common beer bottles from various six packs, Nick has created quite the portfolio, not discriminating between imports, domestics, or crafts. Some of the brands he uses in his work include: Heineken, New Belgium, Rolling Rock, Bass, Grolsch, Arrogant Bastard, and Miller Lite. For full article and photos
