Frizzle: I love this book!
|
Despite Frizzle's outwardly chickeny appearance, she is in fact one of this country's leading book critics. We have asked her and her equally literate sisters to share their thoughts about recent publications: "This week, Cook Eat Smile by Bill Collison, superstar greengrocer of Lewes and beyond, has caught my attention. "Bill has poured his culinary style into a cookbook which is, as we critics say, bang on trend. "The pictures act as an apertif, and the recipes really work - even for those without opposing thumbs. "You'll find a delicious emphasis on fresh fruit and veg, herbs and spices. Dishes like 'Spiced Cauliflower and Chickpea Salad' and 'Summer Pavolova with Berry Coulis' will encourage an outbreak of spontaneous supper parties. "Bill says he is a 'big fan of eggs', as am I, and Cook Eat Smile is this summer's must-have for the kitchen." Mention this offer when you're buying a copy of Cook Eat Smile |

Our book-centric craft day marks Independent Booksellers Week.
Emma Carlow of the craft collecive Make Believe Cafe will be on hand to offer support and advice, and we'll be providing all the materials you'll need to make . . . well, almost anything, actually - ranging from decorative baubles to useful desktop accessories.
You can use one of several craft books (such as our favourite, Playing with Books) we'll have on hand for you for inspiration and ideas.
Drop by for a few minutes, or stay for a while to fashion something fabulous and learn new crafting skills - no reservation is needed. (Space is limited, so we may have to ask you to wait your turn at the crafting table.)
This is an event for grown-ups, please. The crafting is free, but we'll ask you to consider making a donation to Prospero's Project, our literacy fund-raising effort. |

Woolf Walk
| |
The Virginia Woolf Society is organizing a celebration of Leonard and Virginia's first unaccompanied outing together, a walk from Firle to Alfrsiton.
The outing, set for 9 July, will include a group hike from Firle to Alfriston and back again, with lunch being served in our yard or barn (depending on the weather, obviously!).
The 9.5-mile round trip will delight walkers who are fairly fit, but would perhaps be too much of a challenge for more sedentary readers.
The group will be limited to 16, so book quickly to avoid missing out. Tickets for the day, including lunch, cost 12. Send your cheque (made out to 'Virginia Woolf Society) to Wendy Grierson, 8 Duke Humphrey Rd, London SE3 0TY (please specify any dietary requirements). Book by 25 June so they know how many lunches to provide.
If you have questions, call Anthea Arnold on 01435 882349
