Maryland's franchised new car and truck dealers have a long history of supporting the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, University of Maryland Medical Center. Over the last 10 years, the Association has donated over $400,000 on behalf of its members. The funds donated today will sponsor the mission of the Center, which is to provide education and awareness of high risk behaviors that often lead to traumatic injuries. The primary goal of the Center is to decrease preventable injury and death. The Shock Trauma Center is a multidisciplinary clinical, educational and research institution dedicated to world class standards in the prevention and management of critical injury and illness and its consequences.
The University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center treats 8,000 of the region's most severely injured and critically ill people each year, 97 percent of whom survive. It's where the concept of the Golden Hour originated, and where the U.S. military sends its doctors, nurses and special operations medics to be trained before they deploy.

Tammy Darvish Elected to 2nd Term as NADA Director
NADA recently confirmed that MADA Member, Tamara Darvish of DARCARS, was elected to a second three year term on its Board of Directors to commence in February, 2012 at the NADA Convention in Las Vegas. She has represented dealers in the Metropolitan Washington Director District for NADA since 2009, a turbulent time in the automobile industry by any measure.
Metropolitan Washington is one of the 58 "state" seats on the national dealer board that are supplemented by four at-large seats and a seat for truck dealers resulting in a 63 member governing body at NADA. By design, the Metropolitan Washington director works closely with the dealer directors representing Maryland and Virginia, which are, respectively, David Williams of Anchor Buick-GMC, in Cecil County and Mike Martin of Dudley Martin Chevrolet in Manassas.
Congratulations are due to Tammy on this distinctive honor and we thank her for her continued support of our industry.

OTM Correction
In our last issue of On the Move, we thanked Clear Channel Radio in Baltimore for their generous support of our dealer members. In the coming weeks, Clear Channel will air free commercials with the tagline, ''Did you know that it's a great time to purchase a new car'', the goal of which is to educate potential buyers by opening their eyes to previously unrealized advantages of purchasing a new vehicle. We mistakenly reported that the spots will run only on WQSR. In actuality, the free spots will air on WPOC, WQSR (JACK-FM), WZFT (Z104.3) & WCAO (Heaven 600).
