MADA On the Move

On the Move-December 15, 2010
Register Today for 2011 Annual Membership Meeting and Legislative Reception

The 2011 General Session is just around the corner. Maryland faces a $3 billion budget deficit, as well as a significant long term shortfall in funds needed to maintain and update our transportation system.  MADA will work with the Governor and Legislature to come up with creative solutions to these issues while at the same time making clear that the answer to the problems cannot simply be more taxes on our businesses, customers and employees.

MADA urges you to attend our General Membership Meeting and Annual Legislative Reception in Annapolis on January 18, 2011.  This is our first chance to show the new legislators how important our industry is to the State.  We have great success on State Circle with our lobbying efforts, but recent history has proven that the grassroots efforts of dealers are often far more successful.

Reserve your spot today by downloading a  registration form and returning it by fax, 410.269.1549, or by mail to:

Annapolis Hyundai Partners with Local Conservation Group

MADA is proud to recognize dealer member, Annapolis Hyundai, for their recent facility upgrades intended to improve the local watershed of Spa Creek in Annapolis.  Much of the Spa Creek watershed (approx. a 2.4 square mile area that drains into the creek) is covered by parking lots, roofs, driveways and sidewalks- impervious surfaces that don't allow rain to soak into the ground.  Rainwater is directed into a storm drain system which eventually empties into Spa Creek- unfiltered and untreated.  On its way into the storm drain system, rainwater picks up fertilizers, loose soil, pet waste, oil and gas residue and other pollutants from lawns, roofs, parking lots and streets- all of which is directly deposited into Spa Creek which then feeds into the Chesapeake Bay.

By partnering with
Spa Creek Conservancy and the Chesapeake Bay Trust, Annapolis Hyundai is the first automotive dealership in Annapolis to include Rain Gardens on their property. Rain gardens use plants, soils, and soil dwelling organisms to naturally remove pollutants from stormwater. Gardens built with native Maryland plants require no fertilizer, pesticides, or herbicides to flourish in the local ecosystem. Built in low lying areas, rain gardens naturally filter runoff, reducing stormwater pollution from entering Spa Creek.  Members interested in making environmental improvements should contact Molly Alton Mullins with the Chesapeake Bay Trust, an Associate member, at 410.974.2941.

Annapolis Hyundai Rain Garden
Students from local Bates Elementary School, dealership employees and community volunteers came together on December 9th to install the rain gardens.

Our Special Thanks and a Wish for a Happy and Prosperous New Year to MADA Associate Members.
