Tischer Acura Nissan Helps Local Community
Tischer Acura Nissan, MADA and
Vehicles for Change came together on July 26 for two life-changing
donations.
Dealers, local community members and Delegate Barbara
Frush attended a reception hosted by Tischer Acura Nissan on July 26. During the event, MADA's Al Scrimger and
Bruce Brienig, Tischer GM, donated a Resusci-Baby CPR Training Unit to Maryland
City Volunteer Fire Department. The new
unit will be used to train EMS crew and community groups on the proper methods
to resuscitate a choking baby. The
second donation, a car donation, was provided to a low-income family living in
Anne Arundel County.
After suffering the loss of their primary source of
income and living in hotels on borrowed money, Paula Bartlett-Godfrey, her
husband, Jerry Godfrey, and their two children found shelter at Sarah's House
near Fort Meade, MD. Sarah's House
serves as transitional housing for families in Anne Arundel County. Though both
husband and wife were able to find temporary employment, public transportation
often made it difficult for them to arrive on time and keep the job. In order to get back on their feet, the
family needed a car. Through a
partnership with Tischer Acura Nissan, Vehicles for Change was able to provide
the Godfrey family their much-needed vehicle, a 2000 Camry, sold to them for
$700 by Vehicles For Change. "This
was such a blessing, when in this economy, there are people, strangers, who
want to help us. This is so incredible," Bartlett-Godfrey said. "This
means so much to my family."

Vehicles for Change, a
non-profit organization that provides refurbished vehicles to low-income people
who need transportation to get to work, is always looking for more vehicles to
help those in need. "If we could
get more car donations, we'd be able to get more people back to work,"
said Martin Schwartz, President of Vehicles for Change.
If your dealership is interested
in participating in this worthwhile and truly life-changing program, please

It Pays to Remind Yourself About the Basics
A car
dealership must display a great deal of information for employees and customers under federal law. Some items
are required of all businesses. Others are unique to car dealerships. They all have one thing in common: failure to display them will be easily noticed by someone who is looking - whether it is a federal government investigator or a lawyer for a customer or employee who is working on a claim or defense. Below are a few of these items that your dealership must display:
Fuel Economy Guides
Federal law requires that new car dealers display EPA/DOE
Fuel Economy Guide booklets at each location where new vehicles are offered for
sale and to make them available to the public at no charge. The booklets and
related information are available online, please click here. It is not sufficient to claim that the factory (Monroney) stickers
contain the fuel economy information.
NHTSA
Insurance Cost Information Booklets
New car dealers must display NHTSA's
most recent "Relative Collision Insurance Cost Information Booklet." This
booklet compares differences in insurance costs for vehicles within a similar
class on the basis of damage susceptibility, and it is updated each year. One
booklet is generally mailed to each new car dealer annually, but it is also available online, please click here. A dealer should reproduce and maintain a sufficient number
of copies of the booklet so that it is available when a prospective purchaser requests it.
Used Car
Buyers Guides on Demonstrators
Under the FTC Used Car Rule, a
buyer's guide must be affixed to a used motor vehicle available for sale to a
consumer at retail by a dealer. A used motor vehicle is defined by the Rule as
any vehicle driven more than the limited use necessary in moving or road testing
a new vehicle prior to delivery to a consumer. Demonstrator vehicles are therefore
defined as a used car subject to the Rule. Many dealers assume that a vehicle that may be sold as new
under state law is not subject to the FTC Used Car Rule. As a result, they do
not identify demonstrators as vehicles that must have buyer's guides. An FTC investigator who visits a
dealership will look to see where the salespeople and managers park their demonstrators. If the vehicles do not have buyer's
guides affixed, the dealer is looking at an FTC enforcement action. Dealers are reminded that they must spot check for buyer's guides occasionally,
and that check should include a visit to the area where demonstrators are
parked.

NADA supports effort to repeal new 1099 form requirement.
NADA has joined numerous other business organizations in
drafting a letter to Sen. Mike Johanns (R-Neb.), supporting his effort to
repeal a new 1099 form requirement included in the healthcare reform bill.
Under the bill, companies, nonprofits and government
offices are required to file 1099 forms with the IRS when
goods purchased from another business exceed $600 in a year. Under previous
law, the reporting requirement pertained only to services exceeding that
amount. "This new and expanded requirement means that almost every
business-to-business transaction is potentially reportable to the IRS," the
letter to Johanns states. "The new requirements will dramatically increase
...costs, pulling capital out of the business that could be better used to
reinvest in the business and create jobs."
