"That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the
Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us."
2 Timothy 1:14
As a believer, life should be the driving force that compels you, that carries you, that guides you and lives through you. Your Christian life is more than just enduring this natural life, waiting for the day to come when Jesus will lift you out of your trials and bring you into your eternal estate. Every day of your life you should wake up with purpose. If you are going to be a good steward over your life, you need to be in the center of God's will. You need this life to possess the reins of your heart. You are not the same person you used to be. You might look into the mirror and see the same person you have always been, but inside you are completely different. You are a new creature!
There are things that have been entrusted to you. There is a treasure you possess within your spirit that demands your attention. Second Corinthians chapter four says, "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us" (2 Cor. 4:7). You hold this treasure inside you. It is a heavenly treasure that cannot be fathomed.
I remember when I was first learning who I am in Christ. The Lord allows me to see myself before and after I accepted him as my personal Lord and Savior. He showed it to me in a vision. I was standing at the top of a set of winding stairs that led to a dungeon. As I looked down these stairs, all I could see was darkness. Darkness so deep, that it gripped me with a paralyzing fear. As I began to make my way down, I could hear the sound of rodents scurrying below. It was damp and I had this erring feeling. Suddenly I turned, and a bright light came behind me and overshadowed me. It began to lick up all the darkness and gloom. Everything that was in this dungeon changed. By the time I got to the bottom, I looked around and I found myself in a circular room. All I could see were doors one after another. I reached to open one of the doors and it was filled with precious jewels, rare and very costly. They seemed to be stacked up to the ceiling, and I was made aware that they continued endlessly as far as the eye could see.
As I pondered what it meant, the Holy Spirit said to me, "This was your spirit before you came to Christ. Your whole life was full of darkness. It was overrun by the enemy who held you captive to the fear of death. The moment you accepted Jesus, the light of life came into your spirit and changed you into a new creature. Everything that you were was transformed into a new person." Then he said, "These doors represent the vast unknown that awaits your discovery. The unsearchable riches that are in you, in Christ, are now yours and it will take you all of eternity to begin to count their worth." Needless-to-say, I was overwhelmed. I realized right then that being born again was just like scratching the surface. I decided to search everywhere I could to know the depth of redemption.
This is why it is so important that you understand the role of a steward, and what the economy of heaven should mean to you. God has made a tremendous investment into your life. He has deposited in you his treasure, and the more you learn about the life of God, the deeper and richer this life will become. You hold the storehouse to everything heaven wants to do, and by staying engaged with the unction of God, you can make a difference in your generation.
