IIIT held its first seminar for the year 2012 on Thursday, January 5th at its offices in Herndon, Virginia. The three-hour panel discussion focused on the recently held elections in Tunisia, Morocco, and Egypt and the debate that ensued after Islamist parties in the three countries achieved significant electoral victories. The International Institute of Islamic Thought, Jordan Office, organized a workshop on Saturday, January 28, 2012 that discussed the development of a Master's Degree program in Contemporary Islamic Thought. A three-day international conference on "Women's Empowerment: Paradigms, Sources, Methodologies" was inaugurated in Calicut, Kerala, India on January 6-8, 2012 by economist Dr Abusaleh Shariff with an address on "Gender Empowerment in India: Concept, Measurement and Policy."
