WHAT IS TU B'SHEVAT?

What is Tu B'Shevat?

Tu B'Shevat occurs at this time of year because the sap in many trees now starts to rejuvenate in anticipation of the spring. Even though Tu B'Shevat is considered a minor holiday in Judaism, it has a very important role and much deeper meaning.   Learn more by watching our latest Holiday Insight video.
THE 7 SPECIES & TU B'SHEVAT

The Seven Species & Tu B'Shevat

In celebrating Tu B'Shevat, it is customary to plant trees and to eat the shivat haminim, the seven species, that we read about in Jewish text.  Rachael introduces each of the species and explains the significance behind these foods and how they relate to Tu B'Shevat. Check this segment out by clicking here.

TU B'SHEVAT: NOT THE JEWISH ARBOR DAY

Tu B'Shevat: Not the Jewish Arbor Day

Some Jewish festivals seem to adopt certain characteristics of secular holidays. Tu B'Shevat is one of them, even though it possesses a more complex history, a deeper meaning and a heightened spirituality. Sometimes confused with Arbor Day, Rachael delves into this common misconception.  Click here to learn more about Rachael's perspective.
