| Supervisors Rename Moon Park Pond |
The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to rename Moon Park Pond to "Nelson Pond" in honor of Mr. Edwin Nelson for his 46 years of continued service to Moon Township.
Mr. Nelson began his leadership role in the Township in 1962 as a member of Parks Advisory Board. In 1969 Nelson ran for a seat on the Board of Township Supervisors and was elected to serve on the Board in 1970. Nelson served as a member of the Board of Supervisors for 30 years. He currently serves as member of the Parks Advisory Board. |
| Township Supports 911th Air Force Base | The Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution expressing the opposition and concerns relative to the 911th Air Force Base. Moon Township strongly opposes the closing of the Air Force Base and urges Congress and the Department of Defense to reconsider this decision.
The closing of the 911th Air Force Base would be devastating to the community resulting in loss of jobs and possibly, community members. Citizens are encouraged to go to www.mcwpa.org to show their support for the 911th Air Force Base to remain opened. Moon Township thanks Allegheny County Officials, State Officials, and Federal Officials for there continuous level support to save the 911th Air Force Base. |

Moon Township Hires New Planning Director |
Moon Township welcomes reinstated Assistant Manager and Planning Director, Adam McGurk. McGurk is a graduate of Virginia Tech where he earned a BA in Public and Urban Affairs, Urban Policy and Planning and then went on for his Masters of Public Administration at The Pennsylvania State University.
McGurk has previously worked for Moon Township as the Assistant Manager and Planning Director. He is looking forward to returning to the community and helping to facilitate and guide the ideas and goals of the elected officials and the residents of Moon Township. |
| Community Crime Protection |
Recently, Moon Township Police arrested two men attempting to break into neighborhood homes. Instead, those men were put behind bars for criminal activity; circumventing any burglaries that could have been. Moon Police give a special thanks to a local resident who saw the suspicious activity of these men, reported it to Moon Police Dispatch Center, and remained on the phone with the Police to assist them in catching these men by giving their exact description and location. The moment the resident called, the Moon Police were able to report to the scene and take action.
It is very important to the safety of the community to report any suspicious activity and to never hesitate to call the Police. The Moon Township Police Department stresses to residents that the best crime fighting tool of the community is its citizens, and that they would rather be called to check on a possible crime situation than not to be called at all.
In the event of an emergency, an important number to add to your phone book is (412) 262-5000; by dialing this number, residents are directly connected to the Moon Township Dispatch Center. If you can't remember this number, or don't have time to dial the Dispatch Center directly, always dial 911 and the Allegheny County 911 Center will immediately direct your call to the Township Dispatch Center. When in doubt, always call the Police. |

The drug administration has scheduled another national prescription drug take-back day. Moon township police department will be collecting unused prescription drugs on Saturday, April 28 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in the police station lobby at the dispatch center on 1000 Beaver Grade Road.
People are encouraged to drop off their expired or unused medications so they can be properly disposed of. This event reduces the risk of prescription drug diversion and abuse as well as traces of prescription drugs ending up in the public sewer system from being flushed down the toilet or rinsed down the sink.
|
| History on Display | |
Something new found in the Township Municipal Lobby is actually something old. Public Works refinished a display case donated from old Moon Township High School that is now being used to display historical items of the community. Currently on display are old pictures of different areas of the Township.
The Historical Architectural Review Board is looking for items to put on display in this unique piece of history wishing to feature all that contributed to making Moon Township what it is today. HARB is particularly looking for early photos of the Moon Crest Area and the Army Air Force Base when it first began. If you have a historical item or photo to display, contact Charlie Belgie at (412) 262-5000. |
| Recycling Made Easy | |
Before throwing away that water bottle or pop can in the trash, take the extra step to recycle them. Moon Township Municipal Office is taking these first steps of recycling with the help of the Public Works Department.
Public Works made recycling easy for all Township employees and visitors with the completion of the new recycling bin in the Township Municipal Building lobby. Public Works employees built the recycling bin under the supervision and direction of Public Works Administrator, John Scott, to encourage employees to recycle by separating items into four individual categories; plastic, aluminum, glass, and paper.
