Allegheny Tax Bill Reassessment

Property owners should have received their reassessed values in the mail from Allegheny County.  Those property owners wishing to appeal their 2013 reassessed rate must do so by April 2.  Reassessed values will not take effect on tax bills until 2013.  Visit www.alleghenycounty.us/courtreassess.aspx for more information.

This year's tax bills will be mailed out on April 1.  The township tax rate of 3.28 mils will not change in 2012.  This tax rate has not been changed in over a decade.  For more information visit Moon's Tax Office or call Property Tax Collector, Cathy Tress, at (412) 299-7446.

Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge Detour

The Ambridge-Aliquippa Bridge has been closed since March 3 and will remain closed until November.  The bridge will close once again in 2013 from March thru November.  Two additional projects that will conflict with traffic flow this year:

  • The repavement of Route 65 from the Sewickley Bridge to the Beaver County Line will take place on weekends mid-May thru October
  • Duquesne Light is replacing poles in the Edgeworth Area

There will be no funding for Police assistance with traffic as of Friday, March 16.  For questions or concerns concerning traffic flow call PennDOT Project Field Office at (724) 385-0018.  Please use caution while driving and allow enough time for any traffic delays.

Road Department Begins Street Sweeping

The Road Department started their spring cleaning beginning with sweeping the streets.  Sweeping operations will run Monday thru Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Residents are asked to kindly move their vehicle from the street when they hear or see the sweeper near their home.  Please do not sweep cinders into catch basins on the street, these will clog the pipes located underneath the streets.  Also, please remove basketball hoops and hockey nets from the street or right of way.

The following roads will be paved this spring as part of Moon Township's 2012 Road Improvement Program.  These improvements will be done by El Grande Industries Inc. for a total of $1,222,314.22.  Moon Township appreciates your patience and cooperation as these improvements are completed.

Moon Township is one of the first communities to take action in a new Pennsylvania law that will take effect on January 24, 2013. The Covered Device Recycling Act (CDRA) states that electronic devices and their components may not be disposed of with municipal solid waste.  These devices and their components must be properly recycled and may not be taken to, nor accepted by, landfills or resource recovery facilities for disposal or processing.  Visit Pennsylvania Department of Enviromental Protection, keyword: Electronics Recycling for more information on the new law.

Curbside Brush and Tree Limb Pick Up

Tree limb and yard waste pick up will begin April 2 thru April 28, Monday thru Friday.  There will be no pick up on April 6, Good Friday.  Collection will follow the same schedule as rubbish pick up; if a resident's rubbish pick up day is Monday, brush and tree limb pick up will be on that Monday as well.  Public Works employees will drive throughout the township with a chipper to chip any brush that is placed out on the curb line by 8 a.m.

Residents are asked that brush does not exceed six feet in length nor has a diameter of more than four inches.  Brush should not be bundled, tied, or boxed and leaves must be in bio-degradable paper bags.  Brush or tree limbs not placed at the curb line will not be picked up.  The drop-off site at Downes Fire Station will not be opened on the weekends during the spring curbside pick-up.  Please call the Township Garage at (412) 264-3035 Monday thru Friday from 7 a.m. till 3 p.m. with any questions.
