Township Kicks off Memorial Garden Brick Campaign  

Memorial Garden

Moon Township is kicking off a community campaign to expand and enhance the township Memorial Garden where a steel artifact from the World Trade Center will be dedicated on the tenth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

 Moon Township is inviting community members to add their own lasting message to the Memorial Garden by purchasing a commemorative brick to remember a loved one, honor a friend or family member or recognize a milestone. Find out how you can get involved here.
Supervisors Thank McLaughlin for Service

At the Aug. 3, meeting, the Moon Township Board of Supervisors announced the resignation of Tim McLaughlin from his position as Moon Township Supervisor, and expressed appreciation for his nearly six years of service to the township. Mr. McLaughlin's term expires on the first Monday in January 2012. Moon Township is now accepting letters of interest from residents interested in filling the vacancy for the remainder of the year. Resumes must be sent by August 19, to Moon Township Manager Jeanne Creese, 1000 Beaver Grade Road.

MCA-TV Launches New Sister Station

The Aug. 3, Moon Township Board of Supervisors meeting marked the official program launch of Moon Area Government Television, a sister station to MCA-TV. This new station will focus exclusively on local government and will be viewers' new source for public meeting coverage of the Moon Township Board of Supervisors, Moon Area School Board and neighboring local governments. MAG-TV airs on Comcast channel 18 and Verizon FiOS channel 37.

Spring Run Road Ext. to close Aug. 8

 Moon Township is advising motorists that county road Spring Run Road Ext. will close beginning Monday, August 8, for a long-term construction project.


The Allegheny County Department of Public Works is coordinating the project to replace the bridge that carries Spring Run Road Ext. over Boggs Run creek in Moon Township. The contractor for the project is C.H. & D. Enterprises, Inc. of New Stanton, Pa.


Spring Run Road Ext. will be closed between North Flaugherty Run Road and Boggs School Road throughout construction, which is slated to conclude in late spring 2012, according to the contractor. A detour will be posted. Access will be provided for emergency vehicles.

MCA-TV to Unveil New Production Trailer

 Moon Community Access Television is inviting the community to get the first look at the station's new 20-foot production trailer. The production trailer will be publicly unveiled at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, at the Moon Township Municipal Building. Stop by for a tour, and look for the new and improved trailer at Moon Area High School and Robert Morris University athletic events this fall. Moon Township thanks Robert Morris University for partnering with the township to sponsor the new trailer.    

 
Catch Toy Story 3 at Moon Park Tonight

Toy Story 3Grab a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a Friday night movie under the stars at Moon Park.   Tonight's Family Fun Night feature is Toy Story 3 (G). Movies begin at dusk; admission is free.

PennDOT: Brodhead Road Lane Closures

PennDOT District 11 is advising motorists that traffic on Brodhead Road will be limited to alternating, single lane use on Tuesday, Aug. 9. 

 

Crews will complete shoulder improvements between Evergreen Lane and Grant Drive. Restrictions will occur as needed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. Flag crews will control traffic. Stop conditions should be expected.
