Tailor Your Maintenance Program for Each Asset: David Berger suggests optimizing your maintenance program for different work types.

David Berger Article QuoteYour CMMS is a marvelous tool for planning and scheduling maintenance activities, as well as tracking your maintenance history. But one of the greatest strengths of your CMMS is often underutilized - the ability to optimize your maintenance program for all of the relevant work types.

Maintenance management, along with maintenance planners if you are large enough to cost-justify them, must determine the best mix of breakdown, preventive, predictive, and non-maintenance work, whether the work is done internally or using outside vendors.

Tech Tip

Using Wildcard Characters in the Quick Filter Quick Filter Icon

Within FaciliWorks' Quick Filter feature, you can search for records and groups of records more efficiently using wildcard characters such as the asterisk (*).

This is especially helpful if you've used an Asset ID Numbering Scheme that dictates that all assets of a certain type have an Asset ID that begins with a certain letter or number. For instance, you could configure a numbering scheme that dictates that all Asset IDs for automobiles start with the letter A. To find all automobile asset records, you would access the Quick Filter from within an asset record, enter A* in the Asset ID field and click Find.

Quick Filter Window

Quick Filter Results

Using the * before a word, letter or number will produce a list of assets that end in that word, letter or number. For example, if you search for Asset ID: *Library, that would produce a list containing:

CRTU14-Library

Second Floor Library

Using the * before and after a word, letter or number will render all assets that contain that word, letter or number. For example, if you search for Asset ID: *14*, that would produce a list containing:

CRTU14-Library

Fire Extinguisher 14th Floor
