Read Our New Education Blog

Group for the East End's environmental educators (Steve Biasetti, Anita Wright, and Jen Skilbred) have started a blog called "Weekly Words From Our Educators." Articles will touch upon all aspects of the Group's education department, including: school activities, summer field ecology sessions, planting and habitat restoration projects, explorations calendar events, and Peconic Estuary Program topics.

In the weeks and months ahead, Steve, Anita, and Jen will be adding new articles regularly. We hope you enjoy reading the five articles that are already posted, and encourage you to check in frequently to read new additions to "Weekly Words From Our Educators."

Group Pushes for Changes to Site Plan Review Process in Riverhead

The Town of Riverhead is the only municipality on the East End that does not include a formalized public hearing process in its review of site plans. This severely inhibits the public's ability to play a role in the Town's decision-making process and gives people no voice in the eventual outcome of a development.

Given the onslaught of major development proposals, the Group is partnering with local civic groups to petition the Town Board to amend its code and provide for a more transparent and open planning process. We are currently in the process of empowering the Riverhead civic community to gain widespread support for this initiative.

Fauna-thon Fundraiser Will Be May 21st

With the welcome approach of Spring, Group for the East End has begun preparations for our Sixteenth Annual Fauna-thon. We cordially invite you to participate in this exciting event to raise money for children's environmental education programs in eastern Long Island.

On Saturday, May 21st, all interested wildlife enthusiasts are encouraged to join us in a search for mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, butterflies, and dragonflies throughout eastern Long Island. Our task is to count as many different species of wildlife (a.k.a. fauna) as we can find within 24 hours.

Join the search, make a pledge, or donate!
