Vintage Vines Subdivision Would Destroy Bridgehampton Woodland Habitat

As if the case for preserving 48 acres of woodland in Bridgehampton wasn't good enough already, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) adamantly confirmed this fall that the entire site is vital habitat for the endangered Eastern Tiger Salamander. Proposed for development under the name Vintage Vines, the parcel is located just off the Bridgehampton-Sag Harbor Turnpike and could provide a valuable connection to surrounding acres of preserved habitat.

Group Earns $60K Grant To Clean Up Goldsmith Inlet

On November 12th, the Long Island Sound Futures Fund granted more than $2.4 million to 38 projects that will improve the health of Long Island Sound. Group for the East End was proud to receive a $60K grant to reduce pollution from road runoff and restore wildlife habitat to Goldsmith Inlet in Southold. Our relationship with local artist Lillian Ball continues on this next WATERWASH™ project, using similar techniques to those employed at the Mattituck Inlet project she designed last fall.

Need Some Holiday Gift Ideas? Consider Giving the Gift of a Healthy Environment

With the help of our supporters who honored loved ones with a planting in their name last year, the Group expanded its 2010 Planting & Habitat Restoration Program. One hundred and eighty-one participants (from toddlers to adults) volunteered their time to restore degraded habitat and plant native gardens this year. A total of nine projects were completed throughout the East End.

We can send a planting certificate and membership card to anyone on your holiday gift list. What could be more long-lasting than the gift of a healthy environment?

A Volunteer's Perspective:
Sean McGoldrick

At twelve years old, Sean McGoldrick is generous beyond his age. He loves the East End and decided his inspiration could be put to good work by volunteering at Group for the East End. What a job he has done, tending to our gardens alongside his mother, Cathy. They are truly a dynamic duo!

Read Sean's blog to find out more about his experience and why he chose to volunteer.
