See the Stars in Southold
Southold Town will soon enjoy a clearer view of the nighttime sky. A law requiring new buildings to install protective dark sky friendly light fixtures was passed on July 27th. The legislation will reduce excess lighting and in turn focus light only where it is needed, eliminate energy waste, and protect local nocturnal wildlife and migratory birds.

Summer Fun In Nature
Group for the East End's Summer Field Ecology Programs have been inspiring youth ages 8-15 on eastern Long Island since 1991. Participants search for crabs, fish, insects, and other creatures and learn about them -- right in the natural environment! This fun and educational experience cultivates the next generation of environmental advocates that will protect region.

Paul Is One Inspired Intern
Paul Stoutenburgh joined our staff in May as a summer intern. With interests focusing in environmental advocacy and education, he has sure been making the most of this experience. Paul has helped in the effort to preserve Plum Island, removed Phragmites at Marion Lake, assisted in our Summer Field Ecology Program, and traveled to Canada for the International Congress for Conservation Biology. He's also working on a documentary of wildlife on the East End!
