CB Alumni Association Gives to the Oak Park Community During the Holidays...

This past holiday season, the Christian Brothers Alumni Association made a commitment to follow their Lasallian values and give back to the Oak Park Community by spearheading a holiday food basket drive.

President-elect, Cynthia Gandy '78, led the effort by collecting donations and contacting local Catholic parishes to identify families who would benefit from receiving a basket. In total, the Alumni Association supplied turkeys and all the fixings to five elderly couples, all of whom live within three miles of the school. Gandy and her family visited with each of the families and were thrilled to learn that one of them had a son who graduated from CB in 1979. The family was grateful to the Alumni Association and its dedication to the school's motto of "Enter to Learn. Leave to Serve."

The Alumni Association hopes to continue giving holiday food baskets to families who are in need in the Oak Park neighborhood. If you would like to participate or donate to the holiday food basket drive next year, then please e-mail us at cbalumniboard@gmail.com.
The 40th Annual Alumni Dinner: Honoring the Class of 1960 and Experimenting With a New Venue!

The Christian Brothers Alumni Association hosted the 40th Annual Alumni Dinner on Saturday, February 6, 2010. This year's dinner honored the Class of 1960 who graduated from Bishop Armstrong High School.

The evening kicked off with a private Golden Diploma Celebration. For many in this class, this was the first time that they had ever visited the campus since graduating 50 years ago. Nonetheless, they enjoyed the chance to rekindle and reminisce on their fond memories together.

Shortly after, alumni from all graduating classes arrived and enjoyed a BBQ dinner served family style and prepared by Alumni Board members and alumni volunteers. During dinner, awards were handed out for outstanding service to the CB Community, specifically to: John and Susan Nunan for the Honorary Alumni Award; Ron '76, Todd '78, and Troy Bird '82 as well as Tony '83, Andy '85, and Marty Clark '89 for the Alumni Service Award; and Christine Karnis for the Honorary Diploma Award.

The party then moved to the newly built field house for drinks, dessert and live entertainment provided by the band, Danelectroz. Alumni danced away to music from the 1960's and took photos in front of a stylish back drop. The social had an atmosphere that resembled a high school dance from year's past. A special thanks to all the guests, volunteers, and chairs of the Alumni Dinner for putting on such a spectacular event!
Coming Soon...Third Thursday Socials!
Third Thurs. II
Over the past several years, the CB Alumni Association has been successful in connecting with fellow  alumni through online social networking media such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and most recently through our newsletters via e-mail.

Now the Alumni Association is trying to create a way to keep the alumni community continuously interacting by setting up social networking events. Our goal is to bring together CB alumni who share common interests or work in similar fields. These events will occur quarterly, on the third Thursday of the month, hence the name, Third Thursday Social. The socials will be be held at a local Sacramento bar, pub or restaurant from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

The first Third Thursday Social will be held on April 15, 2010. Please help us out and let us know whether or not you are interested in attending as well as which month you would like to attend. See a monthly listing of our gatherings listed below. Also, if you have any suggestions or recommendations to adding a group category to the Third Thursday Social list, then please let us know at cbalumniboard@gmail.com. We would love to hear your thoughts and feedback.

Bishop Manogue Alumnae - Working Together to Continue the Legacy...
Last May, the Bishop Manogue alumnae gathered for the first time ever for a formal reunion since the school's closing nearly two decades ago. At this event, The Conference of Women for Bishop Manogue, alumnae from the classes of 1968 through 1990 reunited with fellow classmates, friends, and teachers. One of the main ideas presented at the conference was to create a way to ensure that the legacy of Manogue would continue through the students at Christian Brothers High School.

Since then, Board members Gina Barbato-Knepp '80, Cynthia Gandy '78, Bobbi Pires '76 and alumna Traci McMullen '83 have rallied their fellow Manogue alumnae to start a student sponsorship in the name of Bishop Manogue High School. Their goal is to collectively support the annual tuition and fees of at least one student each year. The student would be determined by the school's tuition assistance committee in which the first preference would go to the child or grandchild of a Manogue alumna.

The Bishop Manogue alumnae have been trying to meet their goal of $11,825 before their second annual reunion which will be held on May 1, 2010 at Christian Brothers High School. So far, a total of $2,900 has been donated. The Manogue Sponsorship Fund Committee is very confident that the women from Manogue High School will be the first group to ever donate a full year's worth of tuition, if not more, to a student wishing to attend CB.

If you would like to donate money to the Bishop Manogue Sponsorship Fund, please contact Gina Barbato-Knepp at 916-451-5237 or by e-mail at ginabarbatoknepp@comcast.net. You can also make a contribution through Christian Brothers High School by calling 916-736-7300.
The purpose of the Christian Brothers High School Alumni Association is to promote the interests of Christian Brothers alumni and friends; to maintain a mutually beneficial relationship between the school, its students, alumni, and friends and to be of service in helping achieve the goals of the school.
