AMBASSADOR UPDATE

By Kathi Lindau, Lakeview Bank

ambassador picnic  The Ambassadors had their annual picnic at Casperson Park in August.  The weather and food were wonderful and a good time was had by all.

The highlight was a visit from the Lakeville Police K-9 Teams, Officer Chad Loeffler and Shadow and Officer Jason Jensen and Zeus.
After an interesting talk and demonstration a brave Shanen  Lee of M&I - part of BMO Bank & Todd Anderson of Dick's Lakeville Sanitation each donned bite sleeves and survived the leap & bite of an excited K-9 Shadow!   One more check off their bucket lists!

To become part of the Ambassadors Committee, please contact Kathi Lindau  952.892.9716 or Linda Rynda at 952.469.2020.

PRESIDENTS CORNER

BE INFORMED!
Election season is upon us. There are many contests and many candidates to learn about prior to November 6th.
We have the extremely important Presidential election between current President Barack Obama and his challenger Governor Mitt Romney; U.S. Senate race for Minnesota current Senator Amy Klobuchar and challenger Kurt Bills;  and a U.S. House race with current Representative John Kline and challenger Mike Obermueller.

There are many issues to review and it is the responsibility of the voting public to be informed with those issues and where the candidates stand so that we make informed decisions about who should lead us in this country. This is not only true with the national elections but also all of our local elections! This year we will elect Minnesota representation in both the MN House and Senate.  At the Lakeville level there are the Mayorial, City Council and Area School Board races.
Unfortunately, for local elections, name recognition often wins the races without the voters actually knowing who the candidates are and what they actually stand for.  Voters may not take the time to find out what vision candidates have for their city or school district or what ideas he or she might have for the future.  For some emotional appeals overrule common sense decisions.  Elections results should not be based on that.

It is the responsibility of all voters to learn about the candidates and the issues during an election season.  We need to make educated decisions about where our country, state and community are going.  The choices we make this November when we cast our votes for those who will lead will be decisions that not only we, but our children and grandchildren will have to live with for years to come.  Therefore come to the candidate forums that your chamber hosts and learn about the candidates and BE INFORMED!

JOIN US FOR CANDIDATE FORUMS

The Lakeville Area Chamber provides its members and the general public with the opportunity to learn about the candidates running for local offices.  These candidate forums will be videoed taped and then replayed on the Local Access Cable channels.  We urge every resident of Lakeville to attend these forums or view on Cable television to find out where the candidates stand on the issues that are important to Lakeville and its residents.

The Candidate Forums are as follows:
Lakeville School Board Forum - Tuesday, Oct. 2, 6:45 pm - 8:30 pm, Lakeville City Hall

Lakeville Mayor Forum - Tuesday, Oct. 9, 6:45 pm - 8:30 pm, Lakeville City Hall

Lakeville City Council Forum - Tuesday, Oct. 16, 6:45 pm - 8:30 pm, Lakeville City Hall

MN State Legislative Forum - Tuesday, Oct. 23, Chamber of Commerce Luncheon format*, Crystal Lake Golf Club
11:00 am - State Senate Forum
12:00 pm - Luncheon
1:00 pm - State House Forum

BUSINESS & EDUCATION COMMITTEE
By Chair Bob Finke, Family Health Medical Clinic
bob fink photo 2012

The business and education committee is busy preparing for the annual career jamboree fair.  All juniors from both High Schools are required to attend this event which will be held at Lakeville South High School on Monday, November 5th from 2:45 - 4:45.  There will be representatives from over 75 careers available to the students.  The students will interview the representatives that they choose and complete a form that becomes part of their student portfolio.

The annual teacher appreciation visits start this month.  We visited Eastview Elementary on September 7th and will go to JFK Elementary on October 5th.
Members of our committee will soon begin serving as interviewers for the senior interviews at Lakeville South High School.  This is a required activity for all seniors and provides them with a real interview experience as well as providing feedback and tips for them to use in future interviews.

Our next committee meeting is Friday, October 12 at 7:30 AM. All chamber members are welcome to participate in any of the activities of the Business and Education Committee.

It was nice seeing all of you at the 3rd Annual Bowling event at Brunswick Zone on September 18th which raised over $6,000 for the Chamber Foundation!  Funds raised from this event help support our activities for students and teachers.

Bob Finke can be reached at Family Health Medical Clinic
952-469-0500 for questions or to become active in this committee.
