FROM THE EXEC'S DESK By Todd Bornhauser
There are many ways to get involved in the activities of the chamber and meet other members. Several upcoming events are especially attractive: Make plans to attend the South of the River Chambers of Commerce Membership Breakfast with Representative John Kline of the 2nd Congressional District on July 19 from 7-9 am at Brackett's Crossing Country Club. This is your opportunity to get the latest and greatest updates from Washington DC and ask the Congressman questions on specific legislation or policy decisions. The chamber is hosting its 7th Annual Lakeville Area Chamber TWINS NIGHT OUT on Wednesday, August 24. The MN Twins play the Baltimore Orioles! Join us...it has been a great chamber family event in the past, and is also a fantastic way to reward your employees for their dedication and hard work! The Lakeville Chamber Foundation is hosting its 2nd annual Foundation Bowling Tournament on September 20 at Brunswick Zone XL. This is great fun for businesses, friends and family to raise money for the foundation in a team building event. Teams of 4-6 players will compete for numerous prizes. Enjoy the pizza and appetizer buffet, famous "Wall of Beer Raffle" and all the competition for the prestigious Foundation Cup!

Project Updates
On Monday, June 27 a groundbreaking event was held for the expansion of ImageTrend, located in the Fairfield Business Campus. This expansion is the first phase of two expansions planned by the company and involves the development of the additional 3.39 acre parcel that the City sold to them in 2009. ImageTrend has already met its required job creation goal of 21 jobs since the land sale occurred. This two-story addition is scheduled to be substantially completed by the end of the year.
Lakeville will soon be home to the future of firearms safety training, with the grand opening of Gander Mountain Academy on August 6. Just the third of its kind in the nation, Gander Mountain Academy is the most advanced civilian firearms training academy anywhere. It features a combination of highly trained instructors, a live-fire range, and exclusive multi-screen HD, interactive virtual simulators utilizing technology previously available only to military and law enforcement agencies.
An application for a building permit has been submitted to construct a new Goodwill store to be located on Kenrick Avenue adjacent to the Minnesota Tile building just south of the Comfort Inn Motel. Stonehenge Development will construct the new 20,000 square foot store and lease it to Goodwill.
The City Council approved the preliminary and final plat applications for the Walmart project at their June 6 meeting. Walmart is proposing to construct a 152,000 square foot store on Keokuk Avenue across the street from the Lakeville 21 Theatre.
A building permit has been issued for Park Nicollet to remodel the former Hollywood Video space in TimberCrest, adjacent to Applebee's. Park Nicollet will remodel this 5,000 square foot space for an outpatient clinic that will include family medicine, pediatrics, OB, and radiology. They plan on opening in August.

MINNESOTA CHAMBER NEWS
By David C. Olson, President Minnesota Chamber
Did your legislators represent your priorities?
The budget stalemate at the Capitol is demanding full-time attention of the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce these days. We seek a resolution that will have minimal impact on the bottom lines of Minnesota employers.
At the same time, we cannot overlook the accomplishments of the 2011 Legislature. Many votes were cast during the regular session on issues critical to all businesses no matter their size, location or product. The Voting Record can be found at http://www.mnchamber.com/action-center/elections-center/legislative-voting-records.cfm.
A supplemental voting record, if needed, will be published at the conclusion of the special session.
The laws passed in St. Paul have considerable impact on the well-being of employers and employees alike. The economy continues to be challenging, and it is more important than ever for Minnesota to position itself to compete in the global marketplace.
The Minnesota Chamber and its 2,400 members advanced a multitude of issues important to the future of Minnesota's economy. Four priorities led our agenda this year:
. Resolve the state budget shortfall without a general fund tax increase. . Enact alternative pathways for teacher licensure. . Streamline the environmental review and permitting system. . Remove the ban on consideration of additional nuclear and coal power.
The budget remains our top priority for the special session. Alternative licensure and environmental streamlining were accomplished during the regular session, and we'll continue to work on removing the energy bans in 2012. Overall, the statewide business community lobbies approximately 50 policies. Many of these initiatives are detailed in the Voting Record.
The report has two parts: a list of important roll-call votes and a description of and commentary on key business issues. Just as important as the final floor votes is how legislators work in committees and behind the scenes to advance the business agenda. The legislative scorecard highlights those efforts as well.
For additional information on legislators' voting records, contact Tom Hesse, vice president of government affairs, at thesse@mnchamber.com.
We encourage employers and employees to review this report, then contact your lawmakers to show your appreciation for their efforts and/or to share your concerns about their records. Paying attention to this year's committee work and voting records will help us promote our business initiatives in the 2012 legislative session and election.
