TOURISM MATTERS By Jeanne Hutter, Director of Tourism
Lakeville Convention & Visitors Bureau
2009 Jeanne from Gil M.
Celebrate National Tourism Week

National Travel and Tourism Week was celebrated last week in the United States. It is an annual opportunity to spotlight the significant benefits of the tourism industry at the local, state and national level.

In Minnesota, travel and tourism is an $11 billion business equal to agriculture.  Tourism supports 238,000 jobs, 11% of the state's total private sector employment. These jobs are in every county of the state, and pay a total of almost $4 billion in wages. Travel and tourism benefit a wide variety of businesses in addition to hotels and resorts, from financial services to printing, and from museums to restaurants, supporting Main Street businesses across the state.

Tourism also generates revenue for the state, including almost $700 million in state sales tax, 17% of the total. So as you get ready to welcome another season of visitors, remember that travel matters.

Thanks to all of you who work so hard to promote tourism and serve the travelers who explore Minnesota.

AMBASSADORS  By Kathi Koehler, New Market Bank

 Kathy Koehler

Congratulations to the Ambassador of the Quarter, Kathi Lindau of Lakeview Bank.

Kathi has done an outstanding job of keeping the Ambassadors on track with the Chamber activities and reminding us of when and where we need to be.

We have been  busy making phone calls to new and current members and bringing your feedback back to the Chamber office.  Although sometimes harder to reach, we are also calling dropped members for feedback as well.  The Ambassadors are a great group of dedicated people who are here to make your Chamber experience even better!
