This is a high energy, fun and educational event for the entire family. Organized for a Spanish only speaking parent with limited experience of the U.S. educational system, the event's objective is to teach the parent about the U.S. educational system and the many non-profit resources that are available to support them and their child on their educational journey.This FREE event will also include giveaways and hands-on activities for the general public.

| NEW EDITION - NCAN Advisor Training Module This month, NCAN released the new edition of their Advisor Trainng Module, a twelve chapter resource that provides Access Advisors with a strong foundation in all areas related to advising students along the path to and through college. Topics addressed in the module include: Advisor Roles/Responsibilities, Training and Professional Development, Early Awareness and Preparation Activities, Financial Aid, Student Tracking/Data, Adult Learners, and Retention.
College Readiness for All Toolbox The College Readiness for All Toolbox is an effective set of well-researched tools, lessons learned, resources, and documents designed to provide school leaders and technical assistance providers with support to plan, organize, and implement secondary school redesign efforts. Finding a Great Venue Looking for a place to host a fundraiser or event? SpaceFinderLA.org is a new website that enables organizations to seek and post information about venues countywide. The service, free for both renters and seekers, offers the ability to search hundreds of venues by dozens of criteria. National Center for Family Literacy The National Center for Family Literacy is accepting applications from organizations working to provide support for Latino and other families whose members want to earn college degrees. The grants are designed to expand the awareness and use of online college access tools. Ten grants of up to $25,000 will be awarded. The deadline is August 22, 2011.
Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy Grant
The Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy is pleased to announce its 2012 National Grant competition, which seeks to develop or expand projects designed to support the development of literacy skills for adult primary care givers and their children. The deadline is September 9, 2011.
Verizon Foundation Education and Health Grants
The Verizon Foundation is accepting grant applications from organizations working in the areas of education, domestic violence prevention, healthcare and accessibility, and internet safety. The deadline is October 16, 2011.

White House Internship Program- Spring 2012
A White House Internship provides a unique opportunity to gain valuable professional experience and build leadership skills. This hands-on program is designed to mentor and cultivate today's young leaders, strengthen their understanding of the Executive Office of the President and prepare them for future public service opportunities. The deadline is September 11, 2011.
Minority Access National Internship Program
Minority Access, Inc. has tremendous success in administering internship programs for the Federal Government and the private sector. Theirr programs provide minority students from colleges and universities throughout the United States with meaningful, rewarding work experiences. The internship periods are generally ten weeks for the summer session, and 14-16 weeks for the fall and spring sessions. The deadline for Spring is October 1, 2011.
Marketing Internship with Achievement Matters, Inc.
Achievement Matters, Inc. is a private one-on-one tutoring and educational services company based out in Los Angeles and serving families in California, Nevada, Washington, and Texas. We work one-on-one with students from pre-kindergarten through college. They are currently seeking a Marketing Intern for the Fall. The Marketing Intern will support the team in a wide range of marketing related projects. Location: San Fernando Valley.
CHCI Congressional Internship Program (CIP)
The purpose of CIP is to expose young Latinos to the legislative process and to strengthen their professional and leadership skills, ultimately promoting the presence of Latinos on Capitol Hill. CIP provides college students with a paid Congressional work placement on Capitol Hill for a period of twelve weeks (Spring/Fall) or eight weeks (Summer). This unmatched experience allows students to learn first hand about our nation's legislative process. Applications will be open in September 2011.

Alumni Services Training Manager KIPP Foundation - San Francisco, CA The Training Manager will serve as the primary owner of professional development for the KTC community of practice. The scope of training generally falls into four broad categories - 1) manage KTC professional development events and working groups, 2) Research, create, and maintain training materials and share best practices, 3) manage on/off boarding process and promote sharing via the community email list, and 4) manage strategy for national college access memberships and partnerships.
