StreetSafe Task Force
Do You Have Ideas on how to stop the revolving prison door?
The NC Governor's new 34-member Streetsafe Task Force, established to help reduce prison spending by reducing recidivism rates, met for the first time on October 8. A new website has been set-up by the Governor's office to collect ideas from the community on ways to reduce recidivism. Please click here to share your ideas.
The next meeting of the StreetSafe Task Force will be on Monday, December 7th at NC State University's McKimmon Center in Raleigh, NC. The exact time is TBA. During this meeting, members will discuss the committee process moving forward, discuss an evaluation procedure to measure the committee's progress, highlight successful community programs and assign working sub-groups for members. |
Increasing Access to Criminal Justice Resources
NC's Criminal Justice Resource Directory for Practitioners, Offenders & Their Families Coming January 2010
In our role as a statewide criminal justice advocacy nonprofit and information clearinghouse, the Carolina Justice Policy Center has advocated for criminal justice reforms in North Carolina since 1975. In our 35th year we want to increase access to the resources currently available in the communities.
The directory is intended as a compass to help navigate North Carolina's network of community-based corrections programs, alternative programs to incarceration, re-entry programs, legal assistance programs, substance abuse treatment programs and other service programs located throughout North Carolina's 100 counties.
Please take a moment to fill out an information sheet to include your organization in the directory. Also, please forward this email to partners in your work or organizations that you know who provide these resources throughout the state. While we intend to build upon the information in this directory each year, we want to be as accurate and inclusive as possible in the first edition.
Click here to download information sheets in Microsoft Word or Adobe pdf format.
Deadline to submit information sheets: Friday, November 20, 2009
