The best gifts are not found at the mall.

Greetings!

Lake City loves its Decembers, a time when the kids skate at the ice rink, we get out in the sun and snow, we socialize and eat together.  Things are a little simpler here.  Maybe you should join us.

Come back home to Lake City.  Treat your family to an old-fashioned small town holiday, and spend time with old friends and new friends.

The best gift is not money well spent, it is time well spent.

A December Chock-Full of Things to Do

The ice rink is ready for skating at its new, convenient location at the Lake City Town Park.  Thank you to Ben Hake, recreation director for the Town, for all of his hard work to set this up, and to Jodi Linsey and Rob Fries for putting lights on the perimeter.  Bring your skates!

See more recreation conditions, including snowmobile & ski/snowshoe trails, the Hinsdale Haute Route hut system, the Lake City Ice Park, the Lake City Ski hill, and more.  The page is updated frequently;  see it here:  Conditions & Weather page.

Coming up this weekend, December 5 is Christmas in Lake City day, with open houses at stores, a mural unveiling, crafts for kids, fruitcake toss, cookie auction, hot soup, gift wrapping, a light parade, tree lighting, performances by the Stinger Band and the Lake City Lakettes, and more.  See the full schedule, with times, at our events page.

Throughout December, there are open houses, open studios, the Missing Mistletoe Hunt, a salsa & dip contest, a community dinner, the Holiday Bazaar & Finger Sweet Contest, and New Year's Eve celebrations.

All of these, and others, are described in detail on the Events page at LakeCity.com.

Video Showcase: Lake City Ice Climbs

See the new Lake City ice climbing video on the Ice Climbing page
at LakeCity.com.

This video features the Lake City Ice Park, which is located just one block south of town.  A local non-profit, Lake City Ice Climbs manages the park, volunteering time to make ice and keep things organized, in cooperation with the Town of Lake City, Hinsdale County, and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).

Early Winter Along the Rio Grande:
A Video Slide Show

November weather has been so pleasant here that we couldn't resist taking a day trip.  This slide show video takes you along the Rio Grande river, about 30 miles south of Lake City.  With the humans away, the animals were the only other creatures, offering an incredible glimpse into "the most remote county" in the lower 48.
